Good morning FS friends
Had my post op followup yesterday, bandage removed, Frankenhand revealed. Healing well. 4 sutures that will remain until the 16th of December, covered with a bandaid by day and open to the air at night. Marvellous shades of blue, green, yellow and purple from mid palm to 3 inches above the wrist. The bodys' ability to heal is an amazing thing.
Asked when my other hand would be done. They said on the same day as suture removal on the 16th. So booked it. Should be an interesting recovery as I am so right hand dominant that not having use of it for a while adds a twist to things. That food processer will come in handy (under the proviso that I get the harder root vegetables cut up prior to the surgery.
I am struck by the kindness of folks. As I was booking the appointment, the receptionist said that I couldn't mash potatos or carve turkey this Christmas. I told her it didn't matter as my family had all passed. She promptly invited me to her family gathering. Wow. As it happens, I am going to a friends house for Christmas with her clan so won't be alone, but I was in awe of this person's kindness in offering a spot at her table.
I would never have thought at the beginning of this year that I'd be down 80lbs and have both hands fixed. How much things can change when you finally make the decision to put your health and wellbeing first.
Over and out
