Skparker's Journal, 01 October 2015

This is getting frustrating. I'm trying to expand my social life, which doesn't help my waistline. But I know that's my own fault.

Anyway, two new things I'm trying, and please feel free to offer advice/insight on them.

1) I've been reading a lot about people who try to keto diet, or at least attempt to stick to it. They seem to be very successful and it apparently can become a whole new way of eating which isn't too difficult once you get past the initial hump of changing your diet. Anyone have any experience with it? I'm going to attempt to at least drop bread and other baked goods from my diet and see how that goes for a few weeks.

2) I ordered the DeskCycle from Amazon. It was a good deal and I read enough positive reviews to convince me to give it a shot. I have to sit at my desk a lot, and I have anxiety so I tend to shake my legs restlessly. People have commented on it (especially in meetings and such with customers, which can make me look too anxious and unprofessional). So, I wondered if the DeskCycle could help me with my fitness goals while also quenching my restlessness when having to sit still for long periods of time.

I'll let you guys know! I'm trying to stay positive!

I do Keto. I started in March and I'm down 75 lbs. It really does work, but you need to be stricter than other diets. That said, the 'strictness' is to stick to low-carb, high fat. SO you can totally have bacon and avocados and olives and chicken and fois gras and such. So it's different, but it works. The lack of carbs kills your hunger 100%.

Hi CityToast! Thanks for the comment and I'm glad it's working for you! Can you tell me a bit more? Like, what do you eat each day? The general gist I got was that I should be eating mostly meats, eggs, and veggies. I'm still learning about it so I'm a total n00b. :)

Same here. No pasta,no bread,no potatoes,no rice. I only drink water and my coffee. No sweets no junk food and no fast food. I started August 4th and I'm down 18 pounds and 2 pant sizes. And yes you have to be strict and have lots of will power. Good luck to you!

Fat is your friend... coconut oil, butter, lard, olive oil, avocados... keep carbs below 20 grams, eat a moderate amount of protein and non-starchy vegetables... add butter and sauces made from butter and eggs to your meals.. a good starting point for your macros is 75% fat, 20% protein, 5% carbohydrates. I am keto, too. I suggest reading "Keto Clarity" or GOOGLE ketogenic diets to understand the high fat, moderate protein, low carb ratios. You switch your body to burning dietary and body fats rather than sugar from all the carbs we typically eat. Feel free to view my food log. ALso GOOGLE bulletpoof diet for other information.

I haven't committed to the Keto or Atkins diets, but I recently decided to change my eating habits to reflect the low carbs, high protein/fats lifestyle. It has worked so well for me, helping me to lose 9.5 pounds in my first week and completely cutting off my hunger. Sometimes I crave something sweet, but it is so much easier to ignore those cravings now. I think it is a great way to lose weight. By the way, I also shake my legs when sitting (and I also get the looks and occasional comments about it), and I think that the DeskCycle sounds like an awesome way to redirect your energy. I might look into one as well. :)

I snack on a nuts throughout the day. I have coffee with half-n-half or heavy whipping cream if I can get it, with sugar-free vanilla syrup. Breakfast is usually bacon and eggs. Sometimes I hard-boil a few in advance. I can also do cheese sticks, string cheese, or breakfast sausage. Or leftovers from dinner. Lunch is often a protein shake if I'm short on time, but if I have extra time to pack I make meat-and-cheese rolls or lettuce wraps. I can also do various meats wrapped in low-carb tortillas. sausage--all the meats! Tack on roasted veggies and cheese, a nice creamy sauce, some power salad--it's awesome and filling.
