Posing a question for everyone that wants to chime in but I am also going to add my take to this as well. In the end I hope we can all take something positive away from this conversation.

What is the single worst thing about *dieting*?

To me it is the word itself. Diet no longer has the same connotation as it once did. By definition a diet is what you eat and how you eat. I really hate that it has been redefined and that it seems negative when we say we are changing or diet. Saying, "I am on a diet," automatically says in other peoples minds that, "Oh he or she are trying to lose weight," or, "Good thing too you look like your one hoagie from a heart attack." I have seen it in peoples expressions even as they say, "Good for you." Our judgmental society makes thin the norm and impossibly skinny seen as attractive.

I am not on this path for anyone but me. It is not just about my physical health there is mental well-being that is affected as greatly or more. Yes, for my health it behooves me to take off lbs to avoid diabetes, heart health and my own daily amount of energy. But I am not *On a diet*, I am taking this as a lifestyle change and working to better my relationship with food and my relationships with my loved ones. I want the energy I had 20 years ago back. I cannot get it all but I have found some of it and it comes through attitude, determination and focus on making that change.

Hmmm...I often say to others,"I have a chosen food plan that helps me have energy and feel good." I avoid grains and dairy most of the time...like today, we met friends at a specialty place that serves fancy sandwiches - I do not eat bread. I brought a Jimmy John's lettuce wrap sandwich - and no one cared at all. I took care of myself because I have a food plan for my health.

I don't particularly like the word diet. Perhaps there are too many connotations that are negative in my mind. I prefer to think of healthy choices, lifestyle changes, and creating good habits. When I do talk about my journey along this path, I most often say things like, I have been working very hard more the past several months to be healthier. A change to my diet is definitely a part of this, but so much more is involved.
