veggies yuk's Journal, 05 June 2009

i havent posted a journal in awhile - a couple of reasons but the main one is that everything has stayed the same - still working on the hormones and calcium levels to get them fixed so that i can make a dent in the weight loss area...i am maintaining while the hormones flux - just not able to lose

and after what the doc said about being in control of the weight or the hormone's and having to make that choice - i feel i am doing well...

on another front - when i was gone about a month or so ago - i went to a Women of Faith meeting for the weekend...while i was there - i did a typical julie thing (read anal) and counted for the couple of days the extremely obese ratio of women to the normal size (around a 12 or so) the ratio was over 6 to 1...i quit counting...

i got the feeling that that was not the example that God wants us christians to set for the world - that being said i know alot of my buddies here are not God christians and if you want to stop reading i totally understand...

one of the things i am dealing with is that im feeling led to start and exercise group in my church - i hate (read HATE) to be infront of people and what kind of example am i to be if i cannot control my hormones and my weight at the same time...however when GOD knocks you in the head you kinda have to listen...this is the other reason i have not posted a journal in awhile - i havent figured out how to post without sounding redundant...lol...

I Got this email today and wanted to pass it on...

This is one of the best explanations of why God allows pain and suffering that I have seen...

A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed.

As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation.

They talked about so many things and various subjects. When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: 'I don't believe that God exists.'

'Why do you say that?' asked the customer. 'Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children?

If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine a loving God who would allow all of these things.' The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument.

The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop.

Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and unkempt.

The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber:

'You know what? Barbers do not exist.'
'How can you say that?' asked the surprised barber.
'I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!'
'No!' the customer exclaimed. 'Barbers don't exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside.'

'Ah, but barbers DO exist! That's what happens when people do not come to me.' 'Exactly!' affirmed the customer. 'That's the point!

God, too, DOES exist! That's what happens when people do not go to Him and don't look to Him for help. That's why there's so much pain and suffering in the world.'

Hey Veggies-my two cents-starting an exercise class would be a GIFT to others. The example you set is commitment. Regular exercise is the goal-not necessarily weight loss. That's a wonderful example to set. I hope you decide to do it....I am SHOCKED by the ratio-really sad. I think we have the opposite where I live in LA-anyone "overweight" i.e. a size 10 or 12 sticks out. Great job with maintaining the weight as you deal with the hormone issue. I hope you begin to see weight loss soon.

That's a nice email. And Densible is right. Let us know if you decide to lead the class. It might be fun and get you to commit to exercise for your own benefit at least during those times.

Wow, great story, I've passed it on to so many friends who are struggling right now. I agree with the others , if God is calling you to start this class, you and the others you teach would be missing out on a blessing if you don't. I'm pulling for U!

that is a good example to teach that barber a lesson. I can't stand when someone questions me about my faith, I keep quite because a i know no answer would satisfy them. I am so glad you are thinking about doing this, some ppl just need quidance. I am also happy to hear your homones haven't affected w/ weight gain, you will figure weight loss out... sometimes prayer may be your answer.

You know that I have total faith in your purpose and ability to spearhead anything positive like that. Go for it sister!

Veggies, Densible was right on track writing that it is your commitment among 101 other things that is the example. You will be an excellent example to many, many people and in fact I know for a fact you already are. There are many people watching you and seeing how you react and cope to everything. May He shine through you.

Also, not controlling your hormones and thinking you are a bad example is not on, it is a medical condition. It is how you deal with it not that you are going through it. I am sorry that you are having to deal with the hormone issue at all and how it is messing with your weight loss, but you will have so much experience to share with other people who need help and encouragement. You can do this!

First - thanks for the e-mail. You crack me up! Second - see? The two observations in my return message to you -- about your not posting very often and about your posting stories or articles -- was right on the money -- huh! Third -- awesome anecdote! Fourth -- I'll have to think a bit about the exercise class gig before I offer up any useful advice!

I love that story. Thank you for sharing it. And I agree with you: I believe God wants us to honor the bodies He gave us. Permitting ourselves to indulge in gluttony and become grossly obese is not something He desires for us. Also, the more fit we are, the more we can serve Him. When I pray and meditate, I ask to become useful to Him and the world. You've just given me another reason to keep working on the weight loss. We all want to be the best servants we can be.
