I'm pissed. I'm not getting anywhere after a month and a half. My ketostix have been showing at least trace levels most of the time (dropped out this week after a bad meal on Sunday) but I'm not losing. I've cut my calories by an average 1000 calories/day since I started -- I don't care what diet you're on, that should result in a weight loss. I've upped my exercise, adding at least a 1/2 hour walk each day and often more.

Yesterday I'm sure was a bad day too. No major carbs, but I had an atkins bar and four atkins shakes, and ate enough meat to go way over on calories. I did unwrap an ice cream bar and immediately throw it out. I also had coffee w/ splenda and did NOT have donuts while at the Dunkin' waiting the storm out. Believe me, I wanted to take my vengeance out on this diet by eating bad things, and largely resisted. I just stepped on the scale (albeit after breakfast) and it said 260, 3 pounds over my start of 257.

I'm seriously starting to think that this WOE is just not working for me like it did when I was younger, and I might be better served in the morning with a large oatmeal.

I have reading a lot lately about stalls and how to break them in preparation for mine :). I dont know if you are a member of Atkins.com but a guy on there has done a really thorough discussion of how to break stalls, I am thinking that you might not be getting enough calories and throwing yourself into starvation mode, thereby causing your body to hang on for dear life. Here is a link his blog. Good luck!

Without going through your food calendar with a fine tooth comb, I do see a few problems. I believe your calories are too high. You should aim in reducing them down to around 2000-2200 while keeping your carbs in check. It appears there are too many days in which your carbs are way too high. I don't understand how your sticks will show ketosis unless you remain under 50 carbs a day for at least 3 consecutive days and you havent been doing that. Atkins works if you let it.

actually, cutting calories isnt always the right choice, and I agree with keli, your carbs are way to high. If you are consuming carbs, your body will burn that for energy and not even touch your stored fat, as for the calories, read this link http://whyguys.wordpress.com/2010/04/15/why-do-stalls-happen-what-i%e2%80%99ve-learned/

I admit that I've never maintained 20 net carbs per day, but I have maintained a range of 25-40 over a period of at least three weeks in August and being in ketosis during that time. My understanding of the process is that the purpose of induction is to get you into ketosis, and then you can raise your carb level to just below your threshold. -- Also, with 2800 calories consumed being a light day for me, I'm very sure that starvation mode isn't an issue. I think Kellie's right on the calories, I need to get it below 2500 and probably to the 2000 cal level she mentioned. But at that point, what's the difference between Atkins and any other calorie diet? -- I'm also frustrated that I haven't had a lot of energy since being on Atkins (cravings have gone down though), and I'm thinking that my approach has to be introducing some more carbs and lowering the calories.

I think it's great that over the last month or more you have been trying to increase your activity and have been walking on a regular basis. Keep that up!!! (didn't look at all of your food info - just going by the comments here in the journal entries)...but I would say you sound like you would be better served counting calories. You've already made great strides in reducing cravings, you obviously have strong willpower to hang out at Dunkin's and forego the temptations, and you sound like 'healthy' choices in your calorie counting would be what you would be focused on. I would urge you to always maintain a moderate carb intake - avoiding the processed foods, the high carb, simple sugars...they aren't good for you regardless...but making the switch to calorie counting w/ a healthy approach to moderate carb should be quite easy for you. Best of luck.
