Dave Van Horn's Journal, 30 January 2020

So, I was reading up on Keto again today. Something I do every day and found an entry in Google that suggests one should eat at least 6 eggs per day and at least 1 oz of fat rich cheese for each egg. Additionally, it suggested that one should eat 5 to 6 times a day even if not hungry. I Have no problem with the eggs. I love em, same goes for cheese, but I normally, am not ready to eat anything until 11 am or 12 noon simply because that's 16 hours since I last consumed food and I just not hungry until around then. Many a time, I eat nothing until 3 or 4 pm. Does anyone out there have any information about how healthy this suggestion about eggs and cheese is?

Well you can find anything on the net. I have been keto for over a year and I never did eat like that. Not that you would be wrong eating like that. But it is not necessary. As a believer in the ketogenic diet I think saturated fat is the best fat out there. You will have to make your own determination

Looks like you're hit the 16:8 intermittent fasting sweet spot, Dave! The recommendation to eat six times a day sounds like "old science" to me. I love eggs, too, but half a dozen *every* day seems like a rather rigid "requirement." and a setup for boredom. Is this maybe a "quick-start keto plan" of some kind? If you'd like help with menu planning and LCHF/keto food and menu ideas, DietDoctor.com is a great resource. There's tons of free information available there. Good luck and best wishes on your journey!

Dave, I read through your old posts to get an idea of who you are, since you haven't posted a "background essay" on your main page. I'm sorry to hear about the death of your wife. You moved so she and your son could spend a bit more time together, an honorable thing. I hope that you're settling in to the new community. On top of that, you're trying a new eating style. Lots of adjustments! As far as info on keto goes, I suggest checking out YouTube for the main pages of these excellent MDs: Jason Fung (Canadian nephrologist), Ken D. Berry (good ol' Tennessee boy, family and general medicine), and Robert Cywes (South African, living in Florida now; his name is pronounced "SIGH-vehss"; pediatric surgeon with another specialty in bariatric surgery and treatment for obesity). They all all have experience treating patients in private practice and advocate for IF and LCHF/keto WOE, and Berry does carnivore himself. Best wishes!

Miraculum, Thank you very much, I appreciate your input and will follow up on your recommendations. I'm doing fairly well, in that I have lost 15 lbs since I restarted this diet on the 13th. Slightly less the 1 lb per day. I don't know how long I can keep that up but I'm happy with my start. Again, thanks.
