I started this journey on fatsecret after getting a resting metabolic rate test, and an iDXA scan done.

The resting metabolic test basically tells you how many calories you burn a day if you sit on the couch as a couch potato for 24 hours. Really helpful in terms of limiting your caloric intake on a weekly or daily basis. Its pretty darn accurate, and the information as to how much you need to eat just to live is very helpful

The idxa scan is basically an xray which is done as you lay on a table. It scans your body and tells you how much your bone, muscle and fat weigh, as well as where your carrying your weight. It's highly accurate to within .1 pounds. The iDXA scan calculates your weight by adding the weight of the scanned muscle, bone, and fat.

As result of super accurate results from the iDXA, your BMI becomes irrelevant, as it is calculated by the computer using your own data.

After getting all this info, I met with a nutritionist and an exercise physiologist, and came up with the plan to get to my long term goal.

SO basically its a 500 calorie deficit daily which translates into 3500 fewer calories per week, or a 1 pound weight loss per week. I shoot for more than 1 pound a week.

I'm headed back next week for my 3rd iDXA and a repeat RMR as I'm certain that my resting metabolic rate must have dropped after shedding 60 pounds. I'll let you know what happens on the 28th.
