I have changed my diet program to Tom Venuto's Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle program (BFFM). Atkins worked well for several months, primarily because I was averaging 1000 or less calories and 7 to 12 grams of net carbs per day. I lost about 60 pounds from October 22 2012 until a few weeks ago. Then, I developed several health problems, including infections in more than one body system due to decreased immunity as well as multiple nutritional deficiencies, primarily in the B vitamins.
I have moved to a more nutritionally balanced program and am doing well. Losing weight again and feeling much better. Target macronutrient ratios: 45-50% carbs, 30% protein, 15 to 20% fat. Calorie goal 1800 per day with carb tapering throughout the day. I will make adjustments as necessary as weight fat loss continues.
For anyone interested, I started losing weight long before joining FatSecret. In August of 2010, I weight 352.4 pounds. In August of 2011 I weight 302.8. My current weight is 223.6. My waist measurement has decreased from 58 inches to 44.5 inches, and body fat percentage has dropped from 45.8% in August of 2011 to 32.4% now.
I have used several diets over the course of the weight loss to break "plateaus". There is no one diet program that is magic or even the best for everyone. Right now, I feel great and am continuing to lose at a slow, steady pace.

No longer on Atkins. Following Tom Venuto's BFFM program. Lost a significant amount of weight on Atkins, but experienced some health problems due to nutritional deficiencies.
