I have started week 2 of my new 5:2 plan. This morning, the first challenge was just remembering that I had to fast today. I was not helped by signing onto FS and seeing picture after picture after picture of the food people were eating! I had some time late this afternoon when my tummy was just grumbling and grumbling. Usually, the hubby plays racquetball after work on Mondays, so it is just the kiddos to feed and I can eat whatever I want. Today, he decided to skip his game and come home early. I was able to stick to the fasting through all of this.

Now I am feeling good about this. It was a long day, but now I have a couple days until I fast again. I suppose I should get on the scale one of these days to see if this is doing me any good on that front. I feel less flabby, so I am happy with that.

Another beautiful hike this morning. Our county parks has issued a challenge to take one's picture at a certain spot on each of seven hikes in different parks around the county. Today my hiking buddy and I finished our third. (Several of the hikes are now closed due to the crazy rain causing washouts and mudslides, unfortunately.)

After completing fasting day 2 yesterday, I woke up kind of hungry and cranky this morning. Or maybe I was just cranky because those kids would not get out of bed and get ready for school! I didn't eat a huge breakfast though. At lunch, I had some white chicken chili, and I appreciated and enjoyed it so much! Perhaps fasting will help me slow down and be mindful of the food I do eat.

The hubby is going out after work tonight and I need to have a plan of action so I am not too easily convinced by the kids to order pizza. I have a chicken dish in mind, but it helps if I have defrosted something or prepped something to keep me from being swayed.

I am trying a new way of eating, the 5:2 diet. If anyone else has tried this, I would be interested in what you think about it and how it worked for you. (I previously tried IF that limited the period during each day that I could eat, but that doesn't really work for my life I found out.) I am in the homestretch of my second fasting day this week. I was worried about the 500 calories they recommend for the fast days, but I have managed that really well. I also expected to wake up ravenous after the first fasting day, but I was able to eat moderately that day. As long as I steer clear of the notion that I can eat anything and everything on those days, I may be able to make this work for me.

Granted, it has only been a few days, but there are things I like about this. When fasting, I might crave something and can tell myself that I could have it tomorrow. The chances that I will still be craving it tomorrow are slim. If I do eat too much, I can always add another fast day to the week if I feel the need. I like that I do not have to count calories during the non-fasting days. I plan to keep logging all my food for the time being, just to keep myself in check.

I have been exercising on fast days. The gym was no problem the first day, but I ended up going on an impromptu hike this afternoon. I felt fine, although I probably burned as many calories as I would eat all day. I have mixed feelings about that and I will continue to monitor the way my body reacts to this whole situation.
