Well, well. What do you know!? I actually lost a pound in only 4 days. Maybe it's my diet and maybe it's just water weight - but I'll take it!

I'm on day 4 of this detox diet. Although I am REALLY looking forward to having a nice portion of pasta or a slice of homemade pizza (ON WHEAT CRUST, OF COURSE) - I am learning that the need for refined carbs is more psychological than physiological. And it's very difficult for me to not want to eat them all the time! But, I'm learning to change my habits and also learning that I can actually get full - and STAY full - by eating veggies, protein and fruits.

The lack of caffeine is also getting easier for me. I am finding that it, too, is more of a psychological need. I've been drinking lots of tea and lots of water and it definitely isn't the same, but it will suffice - (mostly because I know that I will be able to have a nice, tall cup of coffee this weekend!!)

Hanging in there! More than halfway through it now.

Detox Diet...What have I gotten myself into?

Yesterday I started a 7-day detox diet plan. Really, the diet isn't TOO terribly different than what I normally eat, with a few exceptions:

• No (or very minimal) dairy
• No sugar or artificial sweeteners - this includes honey
• No process carbohydrates (so no pasta, rice, cereal or bread); carbs
will come from veggies, fruits and beans this entire week
• No alcohol

And the most detrimental....
• NO CAFFEINE. NONE.

So this is day 2 and so far, I basically want to punch something. Anything. I don't have a headache <yet> from caffeine withdraw, but I know it's coming. The food changes are not difficult for me, other than I would very much LOVE to have a nice whole wheat bagel or some brown rice for dinner. But alas, I will refrain.

I just hope I can hold out on the caffeine. I definitely think this diet will help me to realize how dependent I am on caffeine and hopefully will enable me to change my coffee-drinking habit. I will be glad to not have to drink a cup in the afternoon anymore. At least, that's what I'm hoping will happen.

OK - only 5 1/2 more days. Ugh!
