I visited the doctor last week. There is no solution to the problem of the medicine. All insulin has the side effect of weight gain. I went off the meds for 10 days and the numbers were high. However, prior to stopping the meds, I went to get labs. My HA1C was 6.7. That's the lowest its ever been since I was diagnosed with diabetes in 1995.

I am glad about it. I started taking the medicine again, and my numbers are good. Although I do not see a change in the weight on my scales, I am able to get into a size 20 pair of jeans. 10 months ago I was in a size 28 and couldn't wear jeans.

I have DRASTICALLY changed my diet. I don't eat bread, pasta, rice or potatoes. I eat plain Greek yogurt and plain cottage cheese. I eat lots of protein, make protein drinks and drink only water and iced tea sweetened with Stevia.

My snacks include nuts and sometimes Harvest Snapeas or a bag of pork rinds. Once in a while I will have a protein bar.

I have acclimated myself to eating this way. I dropped the carbs little by little, first giving up bread, then potatoes, etc.

Still the numbers remain the same on the scale. A friend of mine once told me "The scale is not your friend - how do your clothes fit?"

I am encouraged. I encourage my fellow dieters to not give up and keep on keeping on.

I stopped taking the insulin. My sugar numbers are higher but not astronically so. I lost weight already. I have a doctor's appointment this Tuesday and will address this issue with him.

The doctor keeps telling me to lose weight, but has prescribed a medicine whose side affects are weight gain. It is a losing battle. I plan to win.

I stopped the medicine because I didn't have money for it for six months last year, so I wasn't taking any. I lost weight. Once I started taking the medicine again, I started to fluctuate and have sporadic weight-ins and the weight kept inching up.

I eliminated ALL carbs from my diet (including fruit), eating only baked, or roasted meat and vegetables (green beans, cabbage, spinach, greens), and only snack on nuts and sugar free pudding and cottage cheese. How do you gain weight with such a low caloric intake? So, if being overweight is unhealthy, it is unhealthy for me to take the medicine. Confusing, huh?

Well, we will see if my doctor has an alternative solution.
