Losing your mind in a grocery store is possible...
Last night after our workout, my wife and I had to restock the shelves and refrigerator. We took the responsible route, made a list, clipped a couple coupons; we had a plan. Upon parking the car however it was inevitable that sticking to that plan would be a challenge in itself.
Why must our local supermarket put the bakery at the entrance? The smell of the fresh baked rolls and cakes made me think instead of chicken and rice we should have donut holes and cheesecake. We stayed strong, picked up some fresh veggies and fruits, some salad mix, and took the long route around the bakery to help mask the beautiful aromas that had taken our nose (and mind for that matter) hostage.
Next, meat. Beautiful sirloins, the best rack of pork ribs I have ever seen, and ginormous buffalo burgers stuffed with chunky bleu cheese - all never saw the cart. Before, these would have been the first things I'd pick out. Luckily my wife was with me. We picked up a pack of thinly sliced boneless skinless (and as I like to say, tasteless) chicken breasts. Seafood and chicken I am told are better for you. I'm sorry tongue, I know you feel like your taste buds have been removed from you but it must be done.
Did you know that grocery stores are designed so that people can go completely on the outside aisle and get everything they really need? Once you go down the long aisles, you have fallen off the food pyramid. Weird but unfortunately true.
Who knew salad dressings also work as marinades? Well, I actually knew that, but neglected to remember last night. My wife took the cracked pepper dressing, the chicken, soaked it up and told me to cook. Needless to say, 25 minutes later we had a very good meal. Even more amazing, it was like 500 calories. I ate two pieces of chicken! Plus, it was cheap. The noodles were $1.29 and we have .5 a serving left over (my lunch), chicken was $2.60, and we still have two pieces uncooked (most likely my lunch), and some cut green beans, 1 buck. Two people ate, with leftovers for $5. Taco Bell can't even beat those numbers.
The pounds are coming off, but I know this is to be expected in the beginning of a new diet. We'll see how it works when I plateau. Hope you all are doing well, and if you have any good and cheap ideas for meals, I would love to hear about it. I have a few myself that you may like!

It is official, I am fat.
I felt like I had to build inertia up just to roll out of bed this morning. I can't wait to hit the gym later today; I'll need a crane to get out of bed tomorrow.
Today's menu includes chicken something with brown rice. I would like fajitas or soft tacos, but I am sure the wife will be the judge of that.
Drinking all of this water is making me feel like a water-logged float. Can we substitute ice for the water, ice with gin and tonic mixed in that is...
Anyways, hope you all are having a wonderful day.
