Day 11 -

I was gifted with something wonderful today. I was given a hairbrush more appropriate to my hair. I had been using a comb. It works, just painful with my thick, naturally, curly/wavy hair. I could probably drop a couple of pounds if I cut it, but I love it too much. Plus, with winter right around the corner it'll come in handy as extra warmth as we lose most of our body heat through our head.

Part of the Township has a large pool and apparently there is a woman here named Rosalind who used to teach water aerobics. She's picking up the habit again to help keep us going. After all, in the event we become infiltrated by the virus or whatever isn't keeping the dead down. Anyways, it was lots of fun, mostly women and runners looking for ways to expand workout routines to get out of ruts. It was fun, and I worked hard. I anticipate repeating the experience. BONUS: Since it was a workout I was gifted with a protein drink of 12 oz of milk afterwards. Awesome.

I'm still new here and staying out of the rumor mill as much as possible. There have been, I've heard, shortages coming up.

Amanda said that another run is having to be made for medical supplies. Somehow the antibiotics are starting to run short and not due for a drop for awhile yet. This means the run is going to have to go into the ruins, into the depth of the city, where it all fell apart to start with. I do not envy that. It frightens me knowing I am training to one day be doing that. The questions are, who is doing this and why and where are they moving the items to?

Perhaps it's worth looking into, then again, I have my little feline friend to look after.I just to live and help others to live as well.

Day 10

Return to runner training today. My legs still feel weak even a couple of hours after the training ended. I want to join the dancing group later, as it is a bit more fun than just doing laps around a small space, weather is an issue along with air quality. There was a large group of bodies, former zombies, that were burned along with trash today making it impossible to train outside for the whole needing clean air to breathe the best, yadda, yadda.

Funny thing about the number I might be, I won't be the first, second, third, fourth, but the fifth, if I get through the training. When I complete this training, I fully intend to be the last Runner 5 the township has seen. Of course, I keep thinking that is what the others before me thought as well. No one wants, well, not many, truly want to die and certainly not by being ripped apart to come back as an undead thing that seeks...anyways, yeah.

My reward for completing the nearly hour long training session was my very own, personal bar of soap. Woohoo. Now, I just need to have warm showers over the cold showers to make it even better. I get it. The fuel needs to be used to do other things than to heat water for bathing, just wish it wasn't so.

I am making progress on my blanket, and while I was on my training I found some catnip that I am drying to then use on my little feline friend. If his behavior towards my thread is any indication he'll go crazy over the catnip.

I'm thinking on signing up for a food scavenge later on in the week. See what can be found in the neighboring grounds. A couple of other runners are going into the ruins of the nearest city to scrounge for seeds and plants that need to be planted in the fall to show up in the spring. With luck we'll be better off with food from gardens by June of next year. This is Z01. Sometime in September. I think. I'm not really sure right now.

There is a person that tracks the date, our morale person. Ava. She is trying to keep some of the old rituals like birthdays and holidays. That's enough for now. I should prep for rest. The cot's not the most comfortable, but it suits me and my little furball.

Peace, love, and chicken grease.

Day 8 -

My individual lodgings are settled. It's a small space, but it's private. Just a place for me and my little feline survivor. He's a little black cat, with a white diamond on his chest. I found a tattered green collar with some fake diamonds on it. At the cost of a ration I was able to get a tag engraved. My little hero. He helps to keep me sane. I don't really feel like I can trust anyone but him. I've seen a rule played out very often: You don't have to be the fastest, just faster than the person next to you.

Training was kind of fast and loose today. It is, we think anyways, the weekend. So, it was a flash back to the 1990's with some step floor aerobics, and then some more modern dance aerobics with Shaun T.'s Rockin' Body. We've been dealing with storms preventing outdoor activity. I don't know what we are going to do as the weather changes. I mean the practicalities of surviving a real winter without the necessary fuel for heating. I guess, maybe motivation to train, keep the blood flowing through.

There is some talk of doing something for Halloween coming up for the few kids we have, and just to give ourselves a sense of normalcy left over from the Old World. Who knows, maybe I'll earn enough credits to create a costume. Won't that be something. I have a feeling though, there won't be anyone dressing up as a zombie this year, unless they're aiming to get shot.
