24 April 2016

Ahh, the weekend. Always busy.
Lets start off by saying: MY LEGS ARE ON FIRE.
Why? Because I was crazy enough to do a 9.3km walk. That's why.

Don't ask what my thought process was. I couldn't tell you, but I'm pretty darn proud of myself and almost wished I had pushed myself all the way to 10K. I think I managed to do pretty good yesterday. I ate kind of so-so, but by no means did I cheat either... that and my workout still managed to help me lose. As of today I'm 65% to my goal. My BMI has gone down to 26.7 getting closer to that healthy number of 23-24!

Breakfast: salami.
Lunch: Swiss Chalet 1/4 chicken white meat dinner with skin, Caesar salad
Dinner: Greek Salad (tomato, oil, onion, feta, avocado, cuccumber)
Snack: Atkins bar

EDIT: Before I forget! They had a sale at Old Navy for active wear! I got this new shirt for 9 bucks!!!!
(Ps. sorry about Oliver sniffing my legs down there, I just came back from a massage and he just goes crazy over the smell of that oil...)

Check it out!

Daily fluctuations! I jumped up .6lbs since yesterday but I'm not going to sweat it. I followed the diet, I stayed under 20 carbs so I'm good... hell, I even worked out.

Yesterday I bought a new FitBit Alta. I know it's been floating around that you can use a 20% off coupon for Bed, Bath and Beyond, but for Canadian residence they don't let you do it. So I'm here to spread the good word that if you go to sport check's website and sign up for their newsletter, they will email you a 10% off coupon you CAN use to buy a FitBit. I got mine for a little bit less, and I feel better about dropping that kind of money. I tend to like to upgrade my models on a regular basis, but I just sold my Charge yesterday so that it covered some of my purchase.

So... small review on it:

Impressions on Visual:

Pros: Small, Sleek, Light Weight, nice display options both horizontally and vertically. Looks good for the office. Can change the band.

Cons: I hear the display scratches easily, so be prepared to buy screen protectors. I hate the sports band grooves, the wears down and looks ugly over time and I can attest to this with my older Charge. Again, proprietary cable, which I hate.

Impressions on Functions:

Pros: SmartTrack DOES actually sense what activity you are doing. Tested out the elliptical and it registered. Reminder to move function is great to counteract the sit-all-day effect on your body. It has a battery charge display on it, which is great. I enjoy the text, calendar alerts and caller ID immensely, helps me not be attached to my phone at all times.

Cons: Does not have altimeter, so it wont track your stairs count. No heart rate monitor. Bluetooth connection will drain your phone. Sluggish to respond on tap wake up and does not have a button to navigate.

Overall impression:

Despite lacking an altimeter and heart rate monitor, I would say this is a pretty good little device. I do enjoy it more than my charge, and it does solve the problem of "thick, ugly and obvious sports band on my wrist in the office". I have small wrists, but the small size has so many holes that I can get it to fit right. It's very comfortable, but I am weary of sleeping with it on until I install a screen protector. I like the OLED screen. It does actually track the type of workout you do, and the steps are pretty accurate. As always when you drive, it does accumulate some steps, but you can download an app called "DriveBit". I actually do recommend, these are my first impressions so I may come back in a few months ad do another update.

Here's a picture of my new bit to get me fit.

Here's another before picture that shows how round I was 7 days before I started my lifestyle change at 198lbs:

Fat and weight is just melting off me. I'm currently on a fat burn this week, I love it when this happens. I upped my caloric intake and I'm pretty happy about it. I think I was eating too little before and it's difficult while you are in ketosis because you don't usually feel 'hungry'. I need to remind myself to eat.

Yesterday, I made a pretty mean home made chilli. This is 3.9 Net Carbs for a whopping 370g helping. I suggest maybe eating a bit less than that.

Nutrition facts:

Ingredients:
2 lbs ground turkey
35 g chilli powder
1 bell pepper (or Cubanello)
1/4 cup chicken broth
1 canned mushrooms
2 Celery
2 tbsp grapeseed oil
2 medium onions
2 cloves garlic
14 fl oz Crushed Tomatoes (Note for these, there's a brand called Mutti that is ZERO Net Carbs.)
1 tsp sriracha (or more, depends on your taste, you can even add jalapeno pepper if you like)

Instructions
MEDIUM HEAT (on natural gas stove, may have to adjust for induction cooktop).
In cast iron pot, add oil and onion.
Let onion cook down until translucent.
Smash Garlic. Place in middle of pot, let cook down.
Add meat. Let meat cook stirring constantly to break it down. Let the juices reduce a little bit when fully cooked.
Add crushed tomato and broth.
Add chilli powder, salt, pepper sirracha and bell pepper
Let simmer 1.5 - 2 hours covered, stirring occasionally.
Serve with a little bit of shredded cheese on top.

Yesterday I took my walking sausage outside with me. If I have to suffer going for multiple walks a day his fat little rump should too. I took him around the block, his tongue was hanging out, acting tired... then I get back inside and he does this... does this look like an exhausted wiener to you? Oh well, at least I'm not alone.

Back to the business side of things, I've decided to vary my workout routines. I'm going to throw bike riding, yoga and later this summer roller blading into the mix. I'm also going to look into playing tennis again. The less bored I am with my routine the better. My boyfriend also mentioned that the new house he's moving into has a net, so we can play basketball, and he could probably teach me some soccer. This summer already sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun. I used to say all the time that I was allergic to working out and I would avoid physical activity like the plague, but really, it's not all that bad...

photo update today: I fit into an M shirt from RW&Co from ...4.5 years ago. Bonus: it's office appropriate. My peplum skirt is getting kind of loose though. So downside. I'm too poor to buy new clothes right now, but I guess it's kind of a better situation to be in than big and fitting into them.
