16 December 2017

I haven't really been following any kind of diet but have started eating less, getting full more quickly and also find that my tastes seem to be changing.

While I don't weight much less than at my first weigh-in of 2017, I did have a serious gain last summer (which I may or may not have recorded on Fat Secret). But, since the end of July til now, I have managed to slowly lose a total of 17 pounds. In the past 20 weeks, I have only had two gains, and those have been small.

Every year at this time I go back and read some of my journal entries for the past year and reflect on the highlights and lowlights, what positive changes I've made and the things that never seem to change no matter how much I want them to.

At the end of 2018 I'll be turning 70, and I seriously want to make this coming year one of my best to date and go into my next birthday looking and feeling better than I have in years. I CAN do it, and I WILL!

Between now and the end of this year I will be doing some brainstorming, planning and goal-setting to set myself up for success, and I'm going to regularly track everything along the way. I'm ready to commit to being my best self!

I had a little gain, but actually it's a pound less than I weighed at TOPS a week ago. Although I still have my days when sugar calls my name, I'm doing way better with that and with my eating in general.

I've had the heart monitor off since 2/24, and the report came back that my heart rhythms were normal. It's like once they put that monitor on me, my heart started to behave itself, and I've been feeling great ever since. May have some permanent scarring from those darn electrodes, though!

Not sure if it's because winter is over and the weather has improved, if it's because I'm not in constant chronic pain, if it's because I'm eating better, sleeping better or what, but I have been feeling REALLY good lately. Several different people have commented that I seem different in a good way or that I appear to be happier, am looking good and so on. I guess it shows, and I certainly hope it lasts!

After sitting around much of the winter, I've become more active recently. Since I'm not in as much pain as I was, I've been doing a lot more work around the house, and I've been out and about more. Drove to Asheville twice last week to visit the Biltmore estate and take photos. The second time I also attended their Spring Wine Release event and got to sample their new rose wine.

I'm going to be having a visitor in a couple of weeks -- an old boyfriend I haven't seen since 1966! He's coming to do some work in Brevard, NC and is flying in and out of Greenville and staying one night in a hotel near my house before flying back to California. We're going to have dinner his last night in town, and then I will play tour guide the next day and return him to the airpot for his flight home. Though there's no romantic possibilities, I'm still very excited to see him after all these years and to reminisce about high school, the town we came from and catch up on each other's lives. I'm also excited to show him my fabulous town, which just keeps getting better and better (except for the traffic). I need to be in good shape for all that sightseeing, so I'm going to continue to eat well (and maybe improve upon that a little), drink more water and move as much as possible without injuring myself.

Life is good right now, and I intend for it to get even better!
