The Whole Calorie Counting Thing
Corifeo offers a lot of links to solid resources that explain the energy balance - burn more calories than you take in and you lose weight. (Reminds me of a Dickens quote, pasted below, from David Copperfield.) Here's one practical, though sensationalized, example in which a nutrition professor ate only junk food and lost weight - http://www.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/11/08/twinkie.diet.professor/.

That being said, losing weight is just one aspect of being healthy. Eating only Twinkies for the rest of one's life can lead to a smaller waistline, but likely is not a prudent long-term choice.

Are food databases specific by region?
Thanks, TorhildJ. That was my experience living in BE all summer; some barcodes worked, but it worked poorly if I had no bar code (e.g., a nice block of aged Dutch gouda from AH).

I didn't think to try country-specific FS sites. I will try that next time.

Now that I think about it, FS probably had to do it this way. Food manufacturers use the same brand in many countries, but often adjust ingredients and package size to meet local preferences. With one global database, they probably had users constantly "fixing" each others' entries and getting upset.

Are food databases specific by region?
Is the food lookup function limited to food entries from a specific country or region? I opened my account in the US, but I travel to Europe a lot. When I look up a local food in Europe, the search doesn't find it. When I go to create a new food entry, though, it warns me that I'm adding a duplicate entry.
Example - Bilar Saltlakrits (little licorice cars from Sweden) does not show up when I do a food search for "Saltlakrits" (at top of page or when adding an entry to a day's food diary). If I say I want to add a new food and type "Saltlikrits" as the name of the food, it shows as an existing entry - Bilar Saltlakrits. (This is just one example; I have many others.)

Add weight from 8 months ago impossible? Why?
That's odd. I tried to enter a weigh-in for Sept 2011. I was able to go back to that date in the calendar and enter the weight, but when I submitted the weigh-in, it changed the date to today. Devs should fix that.

PS- Glaun is right about capitalization or proper names despite the open quotes in the last line of the signature block.

Newbie
Not sure. I log in from my phone, my desktop, and two laptops (home and work) with no problems. Have you confirmed you have the right password? If you had the device that works remember the password, you might have typed it in incorrectly when signing up. If so, log on using the device that works and change your password.
