High carb day. Going to be a challenge to eat carbs but no fat...darn. I do love my avos, full-fat Greek yogurt and almonds. Oh well, at least I get to eat Spanish rice and tacos tonight. Not too bad a trade-off. Weather is finally warmer, so will be doing a long, brisk 3 to 4-mile walk today.

Been out of town since last Friday. Proud of myself, as I stuck to the carb-cycling, for the most part. My "cheat" day was actually yesterday (should have done it on Sunday but didn't work out that way while on vacation). I ate pasta, but it wasn't high quality (from a fast-food place), and found it unappealing, so only ate about 1/3 of it, along with one breadstick (it was a cheat day, and I had intended to really carb out.) Learned my lesson: On cheat days, one day per week on carb-cycling, make sure to eat REALLY WELL-PREPARED, HIGH QUALITY FOOD, i.e., if I'm gonna do pasta, for instance, make it myself! Nothing more decadent or wonderful than fettucini alfredo from scratch...
Did two pretty good hikes in the mountains this past weekend, so exercise was not an issue. Did indulge in a few drinks, which I probably should not have done, but oh well, I haven't gained any weight. Just didn't sleep worth a damn.
Today is a low-carb day. Finding it hard to eat every three hours, and need to be sure to get at least 1200 cals in today. That was a problem on Atkins, too, just not being able to eat enough. I think a snack of almonds and some veggies here in a couple of hours, then a whey shake later and a light dinner should do it.

Day two of carb cycling, but these are the low-carb days, so not too different from Atkins, really, except that I can have a whey protein shake, which has only 2 grams carbs and 80 cals. I doubled mine and mixed with unsweetened almond milk. Very filling, high protein. Tomorrow I do a high-carb day ... no slices of cakes or doughnuts, though, just adding in whole grains or a starchy veggie or piece of fruit, at each meal, and in reasonable portions. This way of eating makes sense and I think it will work better for me than strict Atkins. Combined with light weight lifting and the walking I'm already doing, I feel I'll continue to lose toward my goal of 115... will be interesting to see how it works.

Decided yesterday to switch from Atkins to carb-cycling. While I lost quickly with Atkins, it's just too restrictive for me at this point. I had great difficulty eating enough calories per day, and worst of all, my appetite was almost always depressed. I did not like having to force myself to eat. I love food...that was just too weird for me. From what I've been reading, carb-cycling, when done properly, works well, as will any diet. Doing the "turbo cycling," via Chris Powell's diet: Two days low carb, one day high carb, two days low, one day high, then a "free" day in which you eat whatever you want, not going over 1000 calories beyond your typical calorie-per-day intake. Today and tomorrow, are low carb. We'll see how it goes after a couple weeks. Anyone else out there doing carb cycling or have ever tried it? Please let me know how what you think. Thanks.
