After my hip replacement, I drifted off my strict adherence to lchf and started gaining weight. I had gone so long with minimal exercise, that I wasn't used to it, and it really made me hungry. Also, I was keeping company with a major carboholic, and I was constantly bombarded by his subs and donuts. Currently I get the right amount of protein most days, but struggle keeping the carbs below 40 and the fat above 100. I can't afford to gain another pound, so I need to go on the sugar/carb wagon. The only good thing I can say is that I have kept my A1c below 5.8 all this time, and that's saying a lot.

Had hip replacement surgery on May 14th; now able to walk up to two miles a day with lots of rest stops. Hope to start folk dancing again soon. With all this increased activity, I'm losing weight without trying. I really can't afford to buy any more new clothes...

Maintaining my weight and trying to stay active. Got a cortisone shot in my hip yesterday so that I can tolerate walking better. Actually slept through the night last night for the first time in weeks. Osteoarthritis has done a job on my right hip, but I will persevere.
Something wonderful has happened to me during all this mishagas--I've fallen in love! It's been over a decade since I had a boyfriend, and I had completely given up that it would ever happen again. A man I knew over 20 years ago as the husband of a friend reemerged in my life this summer. His second wife died in September after a two year struggle with lung cancer. Our friendship grew, and now it's getting serious. Taking care of myself has had a huge payoff!
