My journey started about 8 years ago as an overweight 21 year old, when I was challenged to enter a team event to swim midmar mile, and so I accepted the challenge. At school, the only sport I enjoyed was swimming, it wasn’t much of an effort for me to swim, after I left school, I even stopped swimming, I ate whatever junk food I wanted and it showed in my appearance.
When I started training for midmar, I realised how unfit I was and how hard it was to swim 20 lengths, let alone 60 lengths in the gym pool.
However I was determined. Through the few months of training, I started to lose weight and get fitter and I felt good. After I completed midmar, I thought - well what now? I must do something? I didn't like what I saw in the mirror and so I decided to start eating healthy, I carried on going to gym and decided to challenge myself to take up running, I always looked at runners on the road and tredmills and though, I could never do that, but, they all had such wonderful figures and burns a lot of calories. I will never forget that first day that I attempted to run around the block, it was awful to say the least, I felt sick and nauseous, out of breath and hated every minute. But I was still determined and with that determination I got around the black without stopping, then I did it twice and lets say from then my real love for health and fitness was born. If I cannot run, cycle, swim or do my strength training in the gym, I have a very bad day.
I have now competed and completed in endless endurance events, and at the moment I am training to compete in ironman 70.3 in January 2016 as well as swimming 8 miles at midmar and raising money and awareness for the war on rhino poaching.
I lost over 20kg through my journey and also decided to study a diploma in nutrition. Im currently a graphic designer and pursuing that perfect opportunity at for my passion of health and fitness to to become my career as well.
