I am a husband, a father to three daughters and one son, a sailor, and an Independent Beachbody Coach. Back in 2009 I lost 35 lbs working out to Power 90. I have now moved on to P90X and Insanity as my workout programs of choice. I learned so much about fitness and nutrition through my transformation journey, that I shared what I had learned and as a result, my wife lost nearly 50 lbs, and her twin sister lost even more than that! Now, I look for ways to help others lose the weight or take it to the extreme like I am doing right now.

Do you use protein powders?

I've been reading a lot of talk on protein powders and I'm curious, which is better for you? I've noticed that a lot of people are using them, and I've been thinking about it because I'm not getting enough protien in my diet. Any suggestions to a certain brand? Are all protein powders the same?

Not all protein powders are the same! Definitely check the ingredients. I take EAS Whey Protein (chocolate) and I include a serving of Shakeology (chocolate). I have this once a day.

Protein is vital to rebuilding damaged muscle and organs. You know how you lose skin every day...if you look as the sun beams through the window, you will see dust particles floating in the air. Well, some of that is skin. Well, that also happens inside you, when your organs get rid of dead cells. You don't need a whole lot of protein in your diet unless you are a bodybuilder. A good ratio is 60-80% complex carbohydrate diet; 10-20% protein and 10-20% healthy fat.

HELP!!! - Switching diets to spike metabolism
Hey, Gail. I took a gander at your profile and saw that you are looking to lose an other 19 lbs! First off, congratulations on making that commitment! You are among the few. (-; As far as the diet switching is concerned...it all depends. Cycling diets is a trick that amateur and professional bodybuilders do to build muscle up and then cut fat. I don't think you are at that level yet. My wife and I have had amazing success in losing those unwanted pounds by just sticking to a diet plan and tweaking it as we go. Both my wife and I would very much like to help you in any way that we can. Please email me at Mark@FilterFitness.com and we can talk some more.
