Let me brag a little
Yesterday at the gym I had a new experience - while working out I noticed a gentleman (?) watching me on one of the pieces of equipment that I enjoy, the back extensor. I thought that he was waiting to use this machine, so I cut my rotation at two and went on to the next piece of equipment. A little later I noticed him watching me again but I completed my three rotations on that machine and progressed to the others that I do regularly. As I was leaving the gym this same man came up and asked me how long I had been working out at the gym, did I come often, and several other comments. While this was gratifying because of the weight that I have lost and the time I have worked out at the gym, it was also unnerving to know that he had been watching me for over an hour. But as a 71 year old who has lost over 80 pounds, it was also pleasant to realize that all I have done to date is paying off. It has been a long, long time since something like this has happened to an old married woman like me.

Toning
I had bariatric surgery in August of 2014, after finding myself up to 293 pounds. My first move was to enroll in Water Aerobics - which I do two days a week. When I hit the latest plateau in weight loss (at 75 pounds), I signed up at the County Recreation Center which has a wonderful weight room. I do my best to get there three times a week and am pleased with the toning that I have accomplished. My husband likes the way my back feels muscular now and recently commented that my upper arms are smaller...which is a very good thing. I worked with a trainer to show me which machines to use, which positions they should be in, how many repetitions at what weights. I feel so much better about myself and am really enjoying the exercising. I am 71 years old and of the three changes I have made in my life - my husband said that my going to the gym was the biggest surprise, next was Water Aerobics (he had never seen me in a bathing suit). My weight loss is not 88 pounds and I hope to get off at least 30 more - so that my weight will finally agree with my drivers' license!!!
