So the scale I have been using is defective. Not surprising since it's probably been with the owner since 1940, but it explains my frustrating three months of weird results/no results.

I went to get a check-up today. I also had one in February at the same clinic with the same exact scale and medical assistant. I asked for them to print my labs and results and they included weight and blood pressure.

I HAVE LOST 5 lbs! My initial intake weight on here (which does not appear to allow editing, understandably) was incorrect.

Good news: I lost 5 lbs (though over almost three months, not that impressive)

Bad news: My starting weight was actually 184, not 180. Today I weighed in at 179 though! Even the psychological effect of moving from the 180s to the 170s is motivating, though the weight lost is a tiny amount.

So I have seen some progress. Going to tighten up on things.

Have also implemented attempting two days of 500-600 calories, and normal but healthy caloric intake on the other five days of the week. I like this mode, because on the non-fasting days I am eating a regular caloric intake, but the temporary depletion has my 1300-1500/day metabolism working smoothly and mightily on a mere 5oo-600 calories for two days a week. Because most of the week has a much higher caloric intake, I would not be experiencing the slowing of metabolism that can happen when you limit calories too much.

Hard-boiled eggs are my secret to feeling energized and stabilized on the low calorie days. Two hard-boiled eggs for lunch with salt and pepper, steak seasoning, or hot sauce, two for dinner, and a nutrition shake for breakfast and I still have some calorie quota left over for some fruits and veggies.

My last recorded food entry was before going on a four-day cruise I won, where I indulged but didn't even eat every meal, surprisingly, and then got a nasty bug on my way back and was sick for seven days, during which I barely ate anything other than a clementine or two each day, and a piece of bread. I drank water and soda and little solid food.

I began a prescription a month ago that tends to come with weight gain, but though the scale doesn't seem to be dropping, my fat seems to be depositing itself more attractively. I am wearing basically the same size, but it's looking better on me. Hips and chest are rounder, but firmer, waist is narrower, legs and arms are tapering more elegantly.

Still, I want to get back on track. The last few days I have not been doing any cardio other than some heavy lifting moving things out of a room, down stairs, and vigorous housework with intense scrubbing, bending, wiping, vacuuming and pushing around a heavy broom outside while working maintenance on chairs and an old fountain.

I will start recording anew tomorrow. One thing that's been discouraging me from the cardio is the roommate is going through a health crisis right now and gets cold really easily. Normally I'd just ask her to put on a sweater but I think she deserves to be as comfortable as possible right now. Some days she doesn't have the energy to put on layers and doesn't want me helping her. So on a 90+ degree day, she'll only turn on the air when it starts to rise to 80 degrees because she knows it's bad for the health of my pet.

I feel exhausted and headachy if I try to do cardio when it's so hot inside. But I think I'll get my head wet in the shower, put on a bra and some shorty-shorts and a big bottle of icy water and just power through.

At first, I weighed myself with my clothes on, and was discouraged to find that in a week of limiting my calories, drinking more water, and adding 40 minutes of cardio four-to-five times a week had caused me to GAIN 10lbs.

Then I realized I had been almost naked during my first weigh in. Would you believe between my jewelry, my dress, and my underskirt, I was wearing over 10lbs worth of accouterments?!

So I am still holding at 180 and the plan was to get down to 170ish by March 6th. I was expecting to see a 1-2lb weight loss. I have not done weight training so I doubt I can blame the resistance on muscle weight. Even on the days I went WELL over my 1200 calories, I was still running a deficit of restricting my calories from the average of only two weeks before, and adding exercise when I had been pretty sedentary previously outside of the physical exertion of my jobs. I've also been drinking a lot of water and my face is puffier, so perhaps I'll need to alternate hydrating and trying to shed that.

Today, I had a light breakfast but still feel satiated. I'm home all day today, so I'll try to add some extra cardio. I just danced like a lunatic for a half hour to some good music, but I'm not going to list that because it wasn't concentrated or consistent as I was interrupted from company and being distracted because it sounded like a bird had fallen into the chimney (either it climbed out or was a mockingbird focusing its efforts from a safe perch on top and enjoying the echo and response).
