First weigh in after 7 months of ignoring the scales and sticking to a plant based diet. We moved into the van 2 months ago and have been eating out at the vegan restaurants and pizza places in this new area!
No pics of the van sorry as its hardly built. Its really just a big kids cubby house setup in the back of my mother in laws garden hehe. Hopefully when we get a proper kitchen made we will be eating out less. It has been a challenge to turn down her food. She feels we both need feeding up. Alas she is a big meat and dairy eater. (cakes cakes and more cakes!)
The holiday feast will be interesting. Ive volunteered to cook and host it in her house. Íts this saturday, so they all have a chance to eat another non-vegan feast someplace else on the actual date.
Seeing as I have had no meat for a year I figured it wise to get a doctors check in. Blood pressure is excellent, blood work is great except for iron and slightly low on zinc. I am anemic but I was already before switching to a plant based diet. I was happy to see I no longer have megaloblastic red blood cells and that my b12 levels are great. My ferritan levels though are very low at 2. So I am currently on iron supplements. I know though that this is not due to the diet but to the amount of tea I drink and the current female hormonal age change in life. Unfortunately the tannins/caffeine in tea and coffee interfere with non-heme iron absorption by up to 80%. The doctor said he never heard of that before but then I aint surprised to hear that from a doctor. (sorry doc might have to find another) Sooo I now have to give up my final last bad habit in life. ugh my tea is sacred to me, ive been drinking it since 8 years old!
Hope everyone has a fun, foodwise and safe holiday season.

nice work Sammysylvain. Plant based is the way to go for easy weight maintenance. I am also plant based and don't bother counting calories any more, I just eat till I'm full and try to stay off the junk.

Good work sticking to your vegetarian/vegan diet. This summer my husband and I volunteered at a retreat center where the meals were vegetarian Now, at home, we eat white meat, chicken, and fish, with the turkey breast; some days I will be vegetarian. The other times -just guilty that I really don’t digest beans and lentils well, even taking enzymes. But this summer it was beans, lentils, rice and more lentils with occasional spaghetti — we occasionally have cheese or egg dishes. But most of the time, when there was only the year-round residents and summer volunteers, it was: beans, lentils, rice, and spaghetti. Beans, lentils, rice, and spaghetti. The occasional curried veggies with or without tofu. (Which I lived, but . . . ) when there was a retreat going on the food was fantastic, all 3 meals of the day. The other mainstay for Protein was PB & J in bread. That was often my dinner, except I shouldn’t eat wheat! My husband and I kept a stash of cheese (Swiss or provolone) and sliced turkey breast, since I found I couldn’t eat yogurt more than once a month.

Thanks Slimwinn! Aye you are right. Easiest diet ever. Unfortunately oreos are vegan hehe. Plus there are some beautiful coconut ice creams around these days and getting easier to find all the time! Oh well I will knock those off the shopping list in January. Thanksyou Stromie. Volunteering at a retreat sounds like an awesome experience. Sorry to hear you have digestion troubles with beans. My husband and I find that potatoes smothered with spicy mexican beans our favorite meal and the one meal that makes our bellies feel very comfortable. He seems to get the most tummy gurgles after a raw salad. Whereas my nemesis is bread. It smells sooo good but i always pay a price later.

Hi Sammysylvain, loved hearing your latest news. Me well as I said above moving house and feeling very unsettled. Your tea dilemma, have you tried Rooibus red tea, no tannins, no caffeine comes from south africa. Tastes like real tea(which it is) and isn't bitter when made without milk. Aldi has some organic Rooibus in the tea isle and much cheaper than Coles, or woolies. I can tell the difference as the teapot has no stains inside. Well worth trying, sure you'll love it. You've done well considering the months that have gone and you reached your 50ks target. You'll soon lose the 2 kilos again when your more settled. I will try in the new year to lose the 3 kilos needed. Merry Christmas everyone. spikspok

I agree on the idea of Rooribos tea - it tastes dark, but doesn’t have the same chemicals as tea or coffee. I read it is also supposed to be really healthy for you - it is a “ healing” tea. I sort of stonewalled on losing during the holidays; it didn’t help that on Christmas I ate 1,654 calories —-in ONE meal!!!! Adds up pretty quickly when eating gluten free waffles and gluten free apple crumb cake. At least I know I can lose more . . . Keep up the good work Sammysylvain!! And have a Happy New Year!
