Hi, I'm fairly new to this app, but I wanted to share my actual progress, since I started changing my diet lifestyle back in May. the key to my weight loss has been a fasting schedule I keep to, based on the book The Complete Guide to Fasting by Jimmy Moore and Dr. Jason Fung. In May I weighed 200 lbs. I was sloppy, tired, an insomniac, and just generally unhealthy for the martial artist I wanted to be. I was a brown belt, and ashamed of how unhealthy I was. Although I didn't show my weight nearly as much as other people did, I looked like 160, not 200, because my body spreads the fat weight better than some. But I still felt horrible knowing I weighed 200 lbs, in spite of how much I worked out, and my skin showed my unhealthy diet the most. my martial arts instructor got really into this fasting book, and he got several of them, and gave me one. That changed everything. I started skipping breakfast every day for the 16 hr fast, and I lost 10 lbs in 1 month! I was so excited! I loosened up a bit the next month, but I still lost another 5 lbs in July, and again in August. by the time September rolled around, I was 20 lbs light than when I started. but that month was when I plateaued. I was so happy, but I was also majorly craving so much sugar, and even though I started doing 3 day fasts every week in September, when I would eat, I ended up eating really bad. I'd eat too much sugar, I'd eat constantly throughout the days, and my weight just stuck, even went up 2 lbs. and in October when I saw that, I got so down on myself. But I heard one of the karate teachers talking about how he eats when he wasn't fasting, and a light bulb went off, there was my problem! So I began monitoring my eating diet, choosing a high fat diet based on the the fact that healthy fats provide a better longer lasting source of energy for the body than carbs or protiens, and that it helps the metabolism get used to using fat for energy. And I started that diet In October. I ate only once or twice a day, and I would skip some days completely. I made sure to listen to my body more, eating when my body was actually in need of calories, not when I craved carbs. drinking lots of water and just worrying less about food. and I find myself today, almost 25 lbs less than I was in May, and so much happier, so much more in control of my emotions, of my actions, and my insomnia has all but disappeared. I feel so much more confident in my skills as a martial artist, my physical body, and my mindset. And I don't plan on stopping here. Right now, I'm on day 3 of my attempted 14 day fast, and I can't wait to see where that takes me, whether I can take on the entire 2 weeks, or if my body needs a break before the end, I'm happy to know that I'm changing myself and constantly pushing myself to be better.
