Doing better, following my body, when it is really hungry and caring for myself. My theme is 'self-care' and I ask myself 'What is it to care for myself, to act and manage my life in a way that means I'm a caring mother towards myself?'
Eating less than 4 grams of sugar (even hidden sugars) in one sitting is a component of this and something to always keep in mind. If I feed myself something sweeter than that, my hunger dragon roars and this overrides the wisdom of my inner mother.
Being careful not to overload my stomach with low GI foods is also a part of the equations. I baked some delicious coconut tahini cookies with cacao nibs that weren't even sweet (a Thermomix recipe) and I ate nearly the whole batch in one sitting. I think those cookies brought back the satisfaction of eating cookies that my mother bought from Ralph's. The cookies she bought used to be my lunch when I was a child and home for the summers. Instead of making myself a lunch (because this was something my mother always did and I felt far removed from doing that for myself, I would reach for the readily available and delicious chocolate chip cookies baked in Ralph's own bakery.
