Started Keto and today is day 3 - I am doing it because I wanted the rapid weight loss and my plan was to switch back to high protein low carb once the weight is off but I have been reading that for most it is a lifestyle change. Hmm.

Why did I gain weight? (1) I wanted to (2) I set myself up to gain weight: went from working 2 jobs, eating 1x per day (slowing my metabolism) to working one job, going to school full-time, quit smoking, and got married so I cooked all of the yummy bad stuff. Plus, as a couple, we drank too much. And we had different eating patterns so I would eat my dinner at 4ish and then eat again with him late night even if I was not hungry.

Why haven't I lost the weight? Because I have never actually tried. I would try for 2-3 days but then stop.

Why is this different? Because I want it to be and I am done with being over weight. I don't think I am special or different than other people but I do think maybe if I can lose the weight, then I can keep it off with continued lifestyle changes - they just don't have to be keto.

Keto is easy and hard for me but not miserable. I have to learn the balance between fat and carbs (and protein). I miss the fruit/vegetables somewhat but yesterday I was able to fold in celery on peanut butter and that was ok. I have over 6 months of this to get to my goal weight so I am going to have to study, study and study some more to keep myself in keto and happy with the food that I am eating. I am not excited about gobs of cheese (actually I love cheese - it is one of my favorite foods) but the meals I made for myself this week seem sooo cheesy (good but I don't think I will be super excited long term with it). I have actually found myself NOT hungry and that is also good. So I just need to study, plan and fold in veggies while keeping my macros in balance I will be happy.

I also have to stop being obsessed with the scale. I gave myself a challenge to NOT step on the scale until I had increased my walking to 60 minutes a day - 6 days a week for two weeks in a row. I totally caved after a week and have weighed myself each day of this keto diet. I weighed myself 3xs yesterday. I need to stop. The scale does not define my happiness. I think it is just that I am so large right now I can't see small gains and I want to but 3xs in one day (in my effort to predict what the next day might hold) is too much. So no more weigh-ins until I meet my walking goal. PERIOD. WHy? Because I need to stop focusing on the short term and start focusing on the long term. There is no more turning back.

Here is part of my motivation: My son had a very difficult private soccer training lesson on Sunday but he his effort was 100%. (He had a birth injury and has very tight muscles so running is difficult for him but he is determined to play soccer, so I pay for him to get extra workouts and training). His team soccer practice was to start Tuesday so Monday night, first night of my diet, we were talking and I was explaining how important it is for him to give 100% in team practice too and his response:
If we don't give our best effort, then we aren't trying at life.

Here is to my best effort!

I love all of this! Good idea with the scale I wish I had done that earlier on. It's just mind games I don't care what anyone says. No one walks up and ask you how many lbs do you weigh? We set so much focus on a number. Yes obviously health is involved. But you can get to your destination without stressing over again just a number. I love what your son said as well. It's like I said the other day. A lot of people pretend to work towards their goals. Then there's those of us who actually live it. You've gotten the first step down. You're telling yourself I'm going to do it this time. Now it's all about just winning each day. Don't look any further down the road. Every day it's you against your old self. Who will win more times than not? Only you can answer that in your actions. I'm pulling for you!
