Egull1's Journal, 05 April 2020

Your's truly had an amazing 3000 cal feast day on Friday. It was mom's b-day and fortunately we have a smokehouse restaurant that is doing take out. Lemme tell ya I at ALL of my classic reuben, ALL of my pub fries, AND ALL 2 slices of chocolate fudge cake....along with 2 glasses wine :-) I confess - it is a challenge at this point on these surplus days and I don't recommend doing weighted sit ups on a bulk day. It's enough to say - it hurts for about 2 hours until digestion has kicked in. However, I have to confess this body felt great the next day with a nice pump and glycogen stores filled up. Now, it's time to use it in the gym. There won't be another surplus day like this until May, but I'll be adding 2 surplus days in June when that pool opens. Until then this week's maintenance cal trajectory is pretty much the same as usual.

~PSA for those with some extra time, material, & sewing skills~
Modeling my Mother's latest functional masterpiece that she is making for family & friends. Mom came across this youtube video, https://youtu.be/fySsaOojEVM
by a seamstress in Ephrata, WA who also happens to be a retired nurse of 20 years. She is currently sewing masks for medical professionals, but her establishment is also providing supplies & patterns for those who want to make masks of their own. These are not the pleated kind. However, based on her experience - she does not recommend the pleated variety as they can still leave gaps for bacteria and viruses to get in and may protect you, but not vice versa if you're infected.

I suppose it's personal preference, but I had the chance to try the pleated variety when I had H1N1 back in February and ended up pulling it off in the Urgent care room, because it felt suffocating to me. My oxygen saturation level was only down 2 points from the typical 99%, but I can't imagine how difficult it might have been if it were lower.

I found this very agreeable with a nice air pocket around the nose and mouth in addition to a flexible metal piece my mother sewed in between the layers so I can mold it to the ridge of my nose. I have a small face, but the pattern in this video comes in all sizes for women, men, & children.

You do so well, Egull! And, thank you for posting the information about the mask. I used the pattern to make some for my daughter who works as a barista at a take out stand. She is grateful.

And... I just made some for my youngest daughter who works a a hotel near the hospital. May patents and families stay there and the hotel is out of masks for the housekeepers. I posted a picture. Again, thanks!

Melissa - I am so very, very happy those patterns came in handy for you and your children!!! This made both Mama and I smile from ear to ear :-) Please feel free to pass that youtube video along to anyone you think might benefit. I know there's a lot of "how to" videos going around for masks - but, I really like this style. I wore mine out for the first time today as well!
