I'm feeling really dispirited about this weight gain. Especially since I worked so hard to completely change my lifestyle. I'm pretty sure it's hormones and stress because I'm not eating in a way that would warrant this kind of gain, but I can't help feeling like I've done something wrong. It's frustrating being perimenopausal because I know have zero control over what is happening to my body, but I really want total control over what happens to my body! My cycles are all out of whack and I'm bleeding for weeks. One month, I had 4 days where I wasn't bleeding. I thought this was supposed to end at my age!?? OY! After getting a clear endometrial biopsy, doc found a clue. She thinks the hormones that tell my body to build lining are forgetting to shut off and the hormones which tell my body to shed lining is in a protracted battle with the others. I decided to share this lovely bit of TMI in the event any of you are fighting the same demons. We're trying something called Seed Cycling, which is interesting. During the first half of the cycle, you eat a Tbsp of Flax and/or Pumpkin Seeds. These boost estrogen. On the 14th day, you switch to Sesame and/or Sunflower Seeds. They boost Progesterone. Just started last week, so we will see. If it doesn't work, I may have to start taking a low-dose birth control pill. Ironic because I had a tubal done so I would never have to put that stuff in my body again. Doc also suggested a couple of supplements: one for healthy estrogen metabolism and another purported to reduce cortisol and manage the effects of stress. Again, we will see. So far, I haven't noticed a difference. (I'm so patient!! ;D) On the physicality front, I am no longer hitting the gym. I want to, but it consistently aggravates my hip. If my hip gets bad enough, it triggers the knee. I'm still singing with the band, so I can't afford to NOT be able to perform. Over the winter, I finally got everything to calm down. Tried to go back to the gym, but it promptly started up again. They finally did an x-ray which confirmed mild degenerative arthritis, but also shows I have small bone spurs at the head of the femur. Got an Orthopedic consult and an appointment September 20. Hoping they can get me back in the gym and performing without pain. As it is, I can't do a double because I'm always incapacitated the day after a show. Seems I'm following in my Dad's footsteps: hiatal hernia, glaucoma, macular degeneration, arthritis... even the same hip! The question I have: why am I 20 years early for all this stuff? Oh well, I have taken up too much of your Sunday. Have a phenomenal week! Mercury is out of retrograde, so everything should be looking up! :D
