dheimer's Journal, 24 September 2007

This weekend was my 30th high school reunion. I was happy I lost 20 pounds before I went! (In case you're following my journal, this is the 2nd of two HS reunions for me in two weeks -- my wife's was the weekend before mine. Sorry for the confusion.) I found it very motivating with respect to health and fitness. Sadly, by the next 5-year reunion we will see some people in very bad health from some combination of obesity, lack of physical fitness, eating unhealthy foods, drinking too much, and smoking. At a 30 year reunion, the differences between those who take care of themselves physically and those that don't are often visibly apparent; those that are fit simply look better.

With respect to my own diet and fitness over this weekend...I strayed off the diet path a bit. I worked out Friday, ran Saturday, no workout Sunday. Ate more of my Mom's cooking than I should have (but not too badly), had four beers at the reunion party, and generally had more carbs than I should. But I kept my breakfast very healthy, and tried to have salad whenever the choice was available, and I only gained 3 pounds over the weekend, which is about the norm for me. So, I'm still in position to continue the push to 180 pounds.

188.0 lb Lost so far: 17.0 lb.    Still to go: 3.0 lb.    Diet followed poorly.
gaining 5.3 lb a week

Sounds like you had a good time. I definitely want to be one of the healthy people rather than the obese ones.

Yes, very true! I am most concerned about long term health and health related problems due to the lack of good physical fittness. Good job staying on coarse, can't offend mom by not eating!! :)

Congrats on having such success prior to your reunion, which (if I remember correctly) was a major motivating factor for you in the weight loss process. I can relate to your comment about the lifestyle changes, I think that's what we're trying to accomplish here is to move into the group of people who will be healthy and fit as we age. Glad you had a good time at the reunion. And yes, I agree-- it seems like you're still definitely in the line for making good progress toward 180. :)
