Pickles! Holy Heck!!! So, I gained weight this week, doggone it. I mostly had a good time doing it....

Our trip to Sunriver on Sunda was a mixed bag; the weather was gorgeous, the air was fresh, the condo was beautiful (with an awesome kitchen). Unfortunately, my partner was in a lot of pain, was uncomfortable in the condo, sore from all the driving, and frustrated with the inability to do much of anything. The Village was mostly closed for the season, only a few shops and eateries opened for limited hours, and Bend is quite a drive away.

I hoisted our luggage in & out of the car, into the condo, helped put everything away. We researched where I could go for Zumba, and found classes at a spa within walking distance. I was ready to pay the $20 a day fee, and go to Pilates and Zumba Gold on Tuesday.

Monday evening, a young family with 3 little kids moved into the condo upstairs. The youngest was screaming and crying in the room above us until after 11 pm, while the daddy kept this loud lullaby music playing reeeealllly late. Around midnight, we came to the mutual decision that we had had enough vacation. I got up & started packing. By midnight, we had everything but the refrigerated foodstuffs ready to roll. After a shower in the morning, I hauled & loaded the luggage, we checked out, and made the 3 1/2 hour drive back home.

We actually took our time both ways, and took lots of gorgeous pictures. On Monday, we had driven up to Mt. Bachelor, and I fell in love with the mountains all over again.

The drive home on Tuesday was decent, with a stop for lunch in Salem. I had plenty of time to unpack the car, put stuff away, and all that good stuff, before putting on my Zumba clothes & going to the 4:30 Zumba class at my regular gym.

Wednesday morning I was at Zumba again, with the fabulous Gina Grant. Thursday, I called and got an 11:15 appointment with my physical therapist. She was able to put my entire body back into alignment; all that hefting luggage and long drives and stress took a toll on my body. I ate too many of the whole wheat hazelnut hemp chocolate chip cookies that I baked for the trip. I ate them for comfort, for the delicious flavors, for energy from the sleepless nights.

I'm getting back on track, starting today. I'm going to cut down on my sweet treats, eat more veggies and fruit, and prepare healthy meals at home that will satisfy both me and my partner. I exercised for an hour 6 days this past week, often doing a lot of walking and other fairly active things. I just ate too doggone much. Sigh.

UPDATE:

One of my best buddy's mother-in-law is in hospice, after years of Alzheimer's, decline, and finally falling and breaking her hip, requiring surgery to relieve the pain. Her time was drawing to an end, so they moved her home, bringing in hospice.

Before they could get the morphine approved, the MIL fell out of bed again and rebroke her hip. I pray that they get the morphine approved now, soon. My friend is a mess. She made it to Zumba this morning, a brief respite from the steady stress and sorrow of watching her MIL slowly die...., and now this.

My first reaction to her text was too head for the chocolate stash in the pantry, to feed my own sorrow and painful feelings and memories. My dad's hospice was so peaceful. I feel so for my friend and her family; what a horror this must all be. Her husband, her daughter....I'll just have a good cry instead, then start preparing dinner.
