We're having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave...

Summer heat has arrived here in the Portland area. Whew! Thank goodness for air conditioning. Unfortunately, my MS heat intolerance is flaring up something fierce, making it difficult for me to do my beloved Zumba.

Thursday July 3 was particularly annoying; I wore my ice-filled cooling wrist wraps, but still got overheated so that my nerve signals to my muscles were getting messed up, my tremors flared, and I was a bit dizzy. My friends noticed, and made suggestions. My instructor noticed, and asked one of my friends to help me. Jody asked a wonderful woman dancing by the big fan to trade places with me, which she gladly did. I was fine with the fan cooling me.

Sunday was rough again, even though I took extra ice packs, including ones to wrap around my neck and ankles. Today, I went to Pilates instead of Zumba Gold. A different instructor, and she kicked my butt. :o) Didn't help that the room was hot; better when she turned on the little fan in the front of the room.

I love challenging myself, and will continue to do so. Today I did these mermaid leg raise things that I know will have me sore in places I didn't know I had muscles in!

My weight is stable; I'm okay maintaining my goal weight, though I'd prefer to be 5 pounds lighter or so. I'm focused on being as fit as possible by the time I schedule my other knee replacement. My partner comes first; scheduling a lumbar injection soon, then a laminectomy when that wears off, or work levels off.

I must get up and make dinner, and Mexican skillet dinner, low-sodium enough to send a few servings to my partner's mom, along with some of the turkey meatloaf I'm baking early tomorrow morning (before it gets real hot!).

Ain't no rest for the wicked...I listen to too much KINK radio, lol!

You inspire me! I am just a wimp in general when it comes to hot weather and I have always had problems getting too hot when working out. I don't have MS, so I commend you problem-solving ways to still be able to work out. I think I will have to purchase wrist and or neck cooling packs. Thanks for the idea!

BTW, I am in the Portland area as well! We live in the NW to avoid such extremes of heat, right? I guess we can survive the occasional heat wave, but I don't want to!

Hi, Gillian! I used to love soaking up the sun, but now, not so much, haha. I got my cooling gear from Polar Products; you can check it out online.
