It has been a pretty good week though the weather too hot to do much. I did work outside parts of yesterday but it was 20 minutes outside and 20 min inside the ac and ice water breaks to cool off. Doing that worked but it was slow getting work done. 103 per my car when I went to the natural food store and Menards for more paint and lumber for trim. Heat index was close to 120.

The coop has made progress as the siding is mostly up, missing 3 small pieces. Today is a bit cooler with storms overnight. Will be working on the trim and re-cutting a couple of pieces that I cut too big. Plus normal weekend chores and hopefully a bit of prep cooking for the week. Prep: trying a new veggie burger from the Pollan Family cookbook, whole wheat bread, some potatoes and celeriac, and a lentil dish of some sort.

New chicks are doing great. Only thing is I ordered 4 and they sent 6! So now 2 extras. They say they do that in case 1 or 2 don't survive. Mine are perky and growing. 3 will lay colored eggs usually blues or greens and 3 brown eggs.

The more I'm learning about food handling by the large companies the more local and organic foods I'm purchasing. I've always geared toward natural since back in the early 70"s. When I lived in the country with a family to feed most of our meat except chicken was purchased from farmers I knew grass fed beef and will raised hogs. Eggs also from friends. I belonged to a food co-op and we ordered organic products every 6 weeks. Here in the city I rarely shop at large grocery stores.

Am listening and watching documentaries on health and food while doing other things inside. I needed some inspiration to get back on my original plan of at least 6-8 portions of veggies and fruits, 4-5 servings of whole grains, proteins mostly complementary with legumes, seeds and nuts and animal proteins only as an occasional option. I haven't veered much but am not getting enough veggies and also have been eating more meat and dairy. Obviously I will have good eggs in the future and will also in the meantime buy some fresh from a friend and occasional lake caught catfish from my son-in-law but mostly plant based. I so want to decrease my asthma drugs the side affects of steroids aren't really nice. I am thinking dairy and beer are 2 things I need to decrease dramatically. 2 of my daughters and at least one of my grandkids are lactose intolerant so am wondering if I'm not somewhat as well. Will try only yogurt and a bit of cheese here and there. I've been trying to increase my dairy due to osteo but the more recent research says that high dairy decreases bone density. Well back to some prep, the heat index and humidity is not nice for working outside.
