ShyGuy's Journal, 08 July 2017

I haven't been on track with my eating since the beginning of June, leading up to my birthday, and it's kind of cascaded from there. It's been a month of celebrating birthdays, about 15 or so people in my family having a June birthday, a church convention, and of course an Independence Day barbecue. But with the 4th of July out of the way I'll be getting back on plan as of this Monday. Some might say, why wait? But, I have a church picnic coming up tomorrow, and I know Monday will be a more realistic starting point. It hasn't been a complete failure, as I've stayed on the fringes of my low carb lifestyle, and made a conscious effort to not stray too far away with the cakes and other sweets. I hope everyone else has been doing much better than I have.

i find outings at gathering are exceptionnally difficult. worst case scenario is that you go all out!

Thanks. I find them difficult too, but knowing that, make sure I limit myself to a small piece of cake, or at least a lot smaller that I would have in the past, just to get a taste.

I have been in the same boat. I too am trying to get back on track. I agree outings, picnics, invites out...all are super hard. I always try to take something I can eat/drink guilt free. It's very difficult living a low carb lifestyle in a high carb world. Hang in there. You can do this!

you can do it, but start today by making better choices - even if it's just one.

Every time I just make it a conscious choice. Just a casual, no stress, unbiased choice. It's always our choice, which ever we choose. :) No worries. No pro's or con's. I just make sure it's a simple choice, yes, or no thanks.

Every bite is a choice. :-) Not willpower. We don't need to do that struggle. Opposing forces, fighting each other? Instead, No judging, just a simple choice.

Hi Bill. I think for some people it's harder than that. There's a whole slew of physical and physiological reactions to seeing food that have brought on pleasure in the brain. (release of dopamine). althought what you're saying is simple, sometimes, it's not. Cravings can last. But, the advice is good, say no and turn your attention to something else. If it works, repeat! :)

There are a few ways to handle all the social gatherings involving food: exercise an extra hour on the day of the event, skip 2 meals and only consume at the party, and emulate the thin attendees. You'll probably notice that the fit & trim ones do not finish their plate of food, they move around more, and they're more likely to jump into a softball game, dance, or play volleyball, etc. Copy their habits instead.

Thanks for all of the supportive comments, and suggestions. In regards to jumping into a game of softball, or volleyball, after the eating is done; my family is more likely to jump, or rather settle into a game of cards, either bid whist, or spades; depending on which side of the family is holding the gathering. :-) Either way, we have a good time, and the music is always in the background, and sometimes some dancing.

Dancing will definitely burn more calories than a game of spades, so I'd just grab a partner and start boogeying away the fat!
