Well, today has been an expensive day. But, I'm finally caught up with property taxes. There was a huge FUBAR when I bought the house, which resulted in my property taxes being 3 times higher last year than the year before. I was not prepared for it, at all, and it's taken some time and saving to get them paid. Then I misplaced the *final notice* on the land tax, and just found it on Monday. I hadn't noticed the fine print in the corner that said if it wasn't paid in full before Oct. 8, the property would be put up for auction in November. Yeeps!!!! I guess my guardian angel was at work, because I've been feeling a sense of urgency to get it done. I also found my car license renewal form that should have been paid in June. I totally spaced on it. Guess what? There's a $25/month penalty attached, so it ended up costing me an extra $75! Lesson learned!
Now everything is paid up, the FUBAR has been resolved, and I just found out that the property tax on my car will go WAY down next year because it qualifies as a 'high mileage vehicle'. The bank account is pretty lean now, but having those matters cleared up is a huge weight off my shoulders.
I'll be switching my settings here to "Buddies Only" before bed tonight, and it'll stay that way until Monday morning, for reasons some of you know all too well.

@iulani, yeah, but with my reduced appetite, at least the grocery bill is tiny! LOL Lenny was a very special boy....and his death was very sudden. And expensive, :(

@Erika, not at all, sweetie! My county has a very poor school system, and roads are rough. The jails are over capacity, and the system is as corrupt as it gets in the "good ole boy' South. But, they're trying, and people are waking up. The highway in front of my house underwent a much-needed repave this year, and the schools are improving little by little as the budget allows for better paid teachers. That, I do not mind supporting!

Glad you got everything paid. I did the same thing with my husband's truck registration. Something Wednesday told me to go look at both our truck plates and mine is good but unfortunately his expired July 31st. I had to pay a $20 penalty. So glad it was not a ticket and penalty.
