notelaine's Journal, 05 May 2016

Okay. First off, this is in no way directed at the kind people who send me messages of support or who have given me invaluable life and relationship advice. You are lovely people and have made a huge difference on my life.

This IS directed at the absurdly high number of people who think it’s fine to go through my diet calendar and send me unsolicited and (usually wildly inaccurate) advice.

If I’m struggling and want advice, I will ask for it. Then, by all means, you are welcome to share your perspective with me. If you go perusing through my diet calendar and see that I’ve been eating fruit, you are NOT welcome to send me a message about how I’m digging an early grave thanks to diabetes and insulin resistance voodoo magic.

I woke up to TWO messages today, telling me that the reason I’m fat is because I eat carbs. Firstly, I’ve been losing fat through a moderate carb diet. Secondly, its non of your darn business what goes into my mouth.

Public service announcement: Yesterday, I ate part of a bagel, a sandwich (with bread!!!!! The horror!!), AND a mini muffin!! Oh, the shame. Clearly, that throws my insulin levels out of whack (or something along those lines) and puts me out of a “fat burning mode” and I will never lose weight. Yet, magically, I woke up a pound lower on the scale today. And, have been consistently losing weight this way. Sorcery I tell you!!

I don’t go digging through your diet history and tell you that you should be eating a wider variety of foods and that fruit isn’t the devil. Please extend that courtesy to me as well.

End rant.

Your food journal is between you and your health care professional!! It's truly about a caloric deficit for fat loss not a bunch of pseudo science. I need carbs for my workouts. I have tried to do the lower carb thing but no energy for me. Each of us have individual bodies and metabolisms. You keep up the great work girl!!!

I hear ya'. That happened to me about a year ago. That person thought I was taking in too much salt. It just came out of the blue. I was shocked...and felt almost like I'd been spied on.

Goodness! Hugs! maybe they need to eat a muffin to stop being a grumpy gills..

Precisely, Notelaine & Kathytnt. We're all different and unsolicited advice - no wait, that's too kind - unsolicited and unwarranted attacks on food choices are out of order. My Food diary is public so I can share it with my partner easily and so people can get ideas from it as to what works well or not for me and maybe try some things for themselves. It's not so some screwball can tell me I shouldn't drink alcohol (tell me something I don't know) or splurge on chocolate (ditto) or eat carb-laden pizza (double ditto) if I want to. I'm not aiming for perfection, just a good balance between a healthy weight, healthy heart and healthy mind.

Losing weight is all about what works for you. If it doesn't fit in with your life, you won't do it. I am so busy logging my food every day - I don't have time to evaluate other's plans, diets, etc. Keep up the good work for yourself. You are doing great.

And agreed Phooka. I keep my diet calendar open because I don't mind people poking through, and have had quite a few people message me about recipes and stuff that I've made, and I'm always happy to help out. It's when it crosses over into judgmental comments it's not appreciated.

WTF? no one ever sends me unsolicited diet advice...
05 May 16 by member: jimmiepop
lol Jimmiepop! I'll fill in for them. How does one eat half an apple as a snack? I'm curious about the logistics of this.
05 May 16 by member: notelaine
@NL LMFAO Cut the apple in half / slice / slather in chunky p-butter...Narrowly avoid full blowout...

... I was in full on crave mode - stab a man in the neck with a straw to steal his nachos crave mode - at dinner prep. Awoke from my stove trance to find myself whipping up 7 Cheese Cream Sauce for my steamed brocolli. WTF? I had spun up this whole rationalization. Awoke just in time to run it down the disposal... and halve an apple..

And Thanks! That was fun! What in god's name are you complaining about??

Best advice Do what is working for You :)

Ahhh, gotcha. Much more classy than my version of take bite of apple, dunk entire apple into peanut butter, take another bite, repeat until you are completely sticky and peanut-buttery.... It's probably a good thing I live alone.

lol!!!! Omg, I have so experienced that trance of "I need unhealthy high calorie food in my mouth right now omg". Usually I find myself making a mini-batch of flatbread, heating up the griddle before I come to my senses and toss it.

Or dumplings. Or anything super carby to add to whatever I'm making. Being a skilled cook makes life dangerous.

Now I'm thinking about peanut butter and apples....

Most people on this website are good people. There are a few that are a few bullies. I had an incident a year ago, I ignore the person and they went away. Have a great day :)

@NL Confirmed, re: chef skills. I have actually gone all passive aggressive with it. Feeding the kids increasingly beautiful plates that I can't have. They are like when did dad go all Gordon Ramsey?? Been working great... Up until last night's cheese sauce incident....

Uhg, I hate the anti-carb rants (especially as a vegetarian/almost-vegan). WE NEED CARBS! Just like we need protein and fats. Do what works for you ! #applaudsrant
