The day should clear up until late tonight so that will help. It also means crazy pup will be outside, I do not need her downstairs. I think we had steady rain most of the night. A restless night for me.

Not looking forward to my unplanned day off. I did sleep a bit later as I was up so much during the night.

Exercise for me today will be clearing out furniture and lots of stuff from my basement so we can get the carpets dried, cleaned and sanitized. I'm lucky as the carpet has no padding, advice of the SIL who installed it. I'm hoping most is salvageable.

Food will be what my stomach can handle, the smell about made me sick last night.

Best get my day started with no shower due to the mess. Put on some grubby clothes and probably my mud boots. I haven't ventured down there yet, hoping most of the water has drained out.

Sorry to hear about your basement...being a former Midwesterner I, too, remember those special occasions when the basement flooded...so I do empathize with you. Hopefully the clean up will go well and you won't have too rough of a time. I know that is easier said than done. Take care of yourself, enjoy the hot shower later, and know that others are thinking about you.

Thanks everyone, taking a break for asthma drugs, this is not nice on my lungs but doing OK. Tried to eat couldn't, I just succumbed though and bought some beer on my trip for more bleach. I'm thankful, it could have been a whole lot worse, we are seeing lots of reports of whole businesses and homes flooded on the news. So far if SIL can work his magic and recover the carpets no real damage so I probably won't call the ins. company. I haven't moved the shelving units yet, still getting them emptied but replacing all of them won't total my deductible. I think if my SIL charges me he would have a huge battle with my DD and she can be mean. The water went down over night so not sloshing through nasty water and fast enough that the paneling and woodwork so far seems ok, though it will need some cleaning. My shower was full of dirt and twigs, interesting. It's soaking in bleach for awhile. A neighbor has more damage than I do. I was thankful my 87yo neighbor didn't have any issues, I checked her basement this am. It's very hard for her to do the stairs since she broke her hip. I'm up to 6,000 steps and still morning...LOL a plus, actually one of the many for my day. Drug break is over, back to work.

Rockiesfan, hope it's just rain, nothing severe. Mike was here and sucked a ton of water out. There are fans going, most everything is cleared out that I can, other things propped off the carpet and I will schooch them around to get underneath dry. Fans are going. Once it's dry he will come back and steam clean the carpets, sanitize and deodorize it all. My little steam cleaner I don't think is enough, he agreed. He didn't find any major issues. So feeling very thankful!!! As he said it will probably stick for a few days. The city came by sucked a ton of stuff out of the storm and sewer access in front of my house. I feel so lucky. I have a bunch of things drying out on my driveway so will start cleaning those shortly. I should have my bathroom cleaned out before the day is over, it still has standing water, yuck. I'm feeling so lucky even with the mess. Hey only 200 steps to go to make 10,000 on a Tuesday. I think I will get there. Might go to a local place and get some dinner as I don't feel much like cooking. Lots of positives among the mess. No devastating tornado or major floods. I've seen both.

Glad to hear you are airing out and hope there is ultimately not too much damage to your things. Take care and don't overdo it.

Thanks, I'm good and thankfully very lucky. I'm going next door shortly and see if 87 yo neighbor wants to go for Mexican. I owe her one. Hopefully I can get my bathroom dried out so a shower before work tomorrow and one to wash off the day before bed. Such is life nature throws you curve balls that you have to deal with.

I know, my cabinets are delayed and I am not happy - not as bad of a curve ball you got, but aggravating none the less.

Aww, your cabinets will be amazing!! When I bought my house in 2009 it had good cabinets and a mostly amazing kitchen. It needs some updating but doable.

the company apparently shut down for the holiday week... It is what it is and we still have things to do. I'm focusing on the business till there is more painting I can do. Raining tonight maybe into morning hoping that brings the contractor. GL getting sterilized, hun.

AWWW small companies do that. It's raining here again also though a light rain nothing torrential, thankfully. Heading for bed and hopefully a decent night's sleep. The ac is set at like 63 to keep the ac running to dry out the basement. Might have a ton of blankets before the night is over. LOL ..

Sorry about your basement flooding. Congrats on your 14,000 + steps. Praying the rain stops and gives you a break.

My advice is toss the rugs if they got soaked through. I just pulled up some that had water damage 11 years ago and were professionally cleaned and sanitized and they were full of mold. ( maybe it was just the company that was used) I sealed the concrete, painted it a barn red and got some big throw rugs. Everyone is breathing much better and it finally smells normal down stairs.

Nichol that does sound nice. I have no padding under the carpet, it's an indoor outdoor type so it should be OK. Mike will treat it with an enzyme mold and bacteria solution once it is clean. Since this is a work space for me, standing on my feet using my quilting machine on a cold cement floor is not an option for me. He's pretty good at it he does mostly commercial and apartment complex contracts and is my SIL so if I have issues, he is available LOL.
