TODAY IS THE BEGINNING OF A NEW HEALTHY LIFESTYLE: DIETING BE GONE!!

Lately I'd been getting a little confused and antsy about deciding what best approach to adopt at this fork in the road, having lost 30+ pounds, and still have 20 more to go, but also picking up a greater working out challange/running, so needing more nutrition. Yet, I didn't want to be on a diet like Atkins for too long, as I've always feared what my body must be going through to miss out on vital ingredients like the good carbs from grains and fruits. Yet, for weight loss purpose, i see the most dramatic results on Atkins' induction when followed seriously and doing 20 net grams of carbs.
After much thinking and brainstorming with my smart friend, BadAndee (Dr. B.A in the house?;)), we have decided that it is time to add the good carbs and good nutrition back in our diet, but in limited quantities, so that the sugars from those carbs dont slow down the metabolism, and cause weight-stall. We are going to combine the best of both worlds from WW and ATkins.

Thus, the plan is to keep monitoring the calorie intake as is at the heart of WW (I was always a little uncertain about putting all those high-fat things in my system that Atkins said was allowed). However, we want this calorie intake to be consisted of mostly what is at the heart of Atkins, ie., low carbs, high proteins. In addition, we want to make good choices between all comparable food items, so high fiber vs. a low fiber one, fewer chemicals or processed items and more natural ones. Finally, we will add in some good carbs: 1-2 items only per day, one of which will be a piece of fruit, and the other a bread or grain (e.g. flat out bread, or chilli/beans/lentil etc.). Thus, overall carbs should still be lower than what our old ww diets consisted of, and yet won't be as low and empty of nutrients as Atkins' stricter version would call for.[So this is the plan for a lifelong health, not just to lose weight...the practice begins now!

In addition, those vitamin supplements need to be incorporated well here (one-a-day pill, flaxseed oil pill, zinc, calcium, and vit C). Plus, half a serving of protein mix with soy milk should give me increased protein and also get my milk requirement fulfilled.

Workout plan has been activated. My personal trainer sessions will be three days a week, and other days I will take classes such as cardio sculpt, power abs, total body conditioning, spinning, yoga. And everyday I will do running, atleast 1 mile, but typically my 30-mins. run. Finally, I hope to incorporate a fun sport/game like Racquetball and really get into it, so perhaps that is something I can do on Sundays.

Need to get my ipod synched up to all this new music I have! Then I'll be JAMMIN'!!!

A big thanks to my FS buddies (esp. Evelyn64, Amryk, Mbhpro, vf123,JulieC, and Gug) for staying with me through my recent up and down, crazy carb-debacles! Also, thanks to my ultra-smart (and ultra-crazy!) best friend, BadAndee for all the ideas and encouragement, and thanks to MaryBeth for providing consistent support! I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!

Ok, now that my Academy Awards speech is over, ready to get back to business!!!!

Today's diet:
Brunch: Scrambled eggs with veggies, 1 egg and 1 serving liquid eggwhite, 1 flat out bread, meatless crumbles, and cheese (TOTAL: 36 g proteins, 7 points, 9 net carbs)
snack: almonds (2 pts/2 carbs), walnuts (1 pt, 1 c)
soy milk (1 pt, 2 c)
protein pwd (1/2 serving): 1.5pt, 1.5 c
stir fry veggies with asian sauce: sriracha, oyster sauce, soy sauce (0 pt, won't count carbs for veggies)
salad of spinach, tomato, and sprinkled feta (1 pt, 0 c)
fruit: 1 cup grapes (1 pt, not counting carbs for fruits)

Total: points- 16 & carbs- 14.5, protein: 85 g or so BANNER DAY!!! Consisted of low calories, low carbs, very high proteins, fiber, veggies, fruits, AND all my diet supplements!! I am a happy camper indeed! Lots of weighing, counting, measuring, writing,..but if the end result is looking at that papaer and saying, "wow, I did good--look at all this wonderful riches I'm putting in my body instead of junk!", then it's totally worth the time and effort taken in being anal-retentive!! :)

Exercise was good:
45 mins of total body conditioning class
15 mins of abs class(totally kicked by butt! )
15 mins on cross trainer machine
20 mins on treadmill (managed to run on my hurt knee, and did 1 mile in 13.53 mins, and a total of 1.45 miles in the 20 mins period.

And the award goes to.... 08! I love that you are continuing to question what works and seek out new solutions that will work for you. I think you'll have great success with your new low carb WW plan. There is a WW plan, The Core Plan, that is low carb. I don't know much else about it other than that there is list of "approved" foods and you are allowed to eat as much of them as you need to feel full... no POINTS to count. Your exercise goals sound amazing. Don't forget the benefits of a rest day now and then!

Let's get this party started, Sister! You had an A-1 day today! It does take more time to keep track of carbs and points but I think it's going to be well worth it! What an awesome workout you had today too. Keep it up!!

It's funny, I've been doing pretty much what you and BA came up with...I'm not as low as I was while doing Atkins but at least I'm eating what I want (to an extent)! That trainer is going to whip you into shape, don't you worry!!!

EVERYONE comments at least once every other day about your enthusiasm and positive energy. HOW COME THEN, I have diagnosed you with being a chronic pain in the butt?
