northernmusician's Journal, 04 October 2014

No post tomorrow. Back in town. Had considered camping out, but town is close and there's something about a hot shower in the morning. I'll be up bright and early... okay, early tomorrow and out the door with my pointy stick. (See the new avatar.)

Talked to a guy in his late 30s from Cologne, Germany today. He's here on a guided hunt. He had a beautiful 30-06 Mannlicher. Gorgeous. (The rifle. Geez, that could have really gone wrong with that rifle brand.) He said he'd never drawn a compound bow, so I told him he could try mine. It's currently set to a 65 pound draw. He tried to pull it back then looked at me as if to say, 'You can pull this? You're a skinny old guy'. Dang kids.

Ate inside my window and kept it to reasonable calories. Not bothering to log it. Too tired. I may not log consistently until Monday. Have a good sleep everyone.

My original bow was an AMF recurve, #40. I couldn't pull it now even if a bear was coming at me. Also have a Bear White Tail compound, probably 30 years old.

They're a lot of fun, rocker. Even just target practice. Something old world about it all. You can buy recurves that are about 15 to 20 pounds pretty cheap. I like it because of the intuition and coordination required. 7:30 I've been up for an hour getting ready. Oh, man, it's early. I ain't no DiaryKing.

I knew I liked you guys for a reason! Sadly, have not hunted in many years...

I gave the compound a pull. Wow. Getting old and arms are weak. Might get the strength back with the physical therapy. See how I'm doing in the Spring before considering a 15# for target. I am looking for hobbies to keep me out of trouble. Keeping an open mind, what's left of it, anyway. Then going in the opposite direction, I will definitely go back to painting ceramics. And considering pottery.

Would love to learn to throw pots! On my to do list once I get the house done.

I won't learn to throw pots. Bow and arrow is far more effective. Rained out.

LOL, sorry NM I don't hunt, used to be a pretty good shot with a 22. 2 daughters and 2 granddaughters hunt as well as the SILs and the grandsons. The kids have had 22's since they were little. 1 grandson used to bow hunt and many friends. They have incredible high powered bows.

Okay, it's Monday. The nagging begins. Hope your weekend was survivable. Welcome back to civilization!
