So I wanted a simple challenge to keep me moving and active while I still feel good pregnant. Luckily there was a simple walking 20-30 minutes 5 days a week challenge already posted to start in 3 days. I have a treadmill just for the job too! But I started yesterday and I am going to try to do it everyday but Sunday. Here is a link if anyone is interested. Walking Challenge

Wrestling season is back and tomorrow is the first tournament. My daughter decided she didn't like getting beat up so she isn't doing it this year. But I still have three kids in since my 4 year old started this year. I love getting to watch them wrestle and I am excited to see Aiden, my 4 year old, wrestle for the first time tomorrow. I am ready for all the crying that comes with losing and getting hurt too. I say that but Aiden might not be my youngest but he is definitely my baby. I already have my food planned for the day too. Cottage cheese/veggie mix for lunch and my daily eggs and toast for breakfast before we leave. For a snack I am bringing a mix of prunes and some chocolate covered prunes. I did fine last year with eating at tournaments and I am positive I can keep it healthy again this year. For my kids I am packing pb jelly sandwiches for lunch, fruit and popcorn for a snack. I hate when I see kids wrestling eating candy bars and drinking pop or Gatorade. For people who don't read labels on all that stuff corn syrup is usually always the second ingredient on these drinks.

My opinion on stuff people constantly feed their kids with all the man made chemicals in it is you wouldn't give your kids drugs so what is the difference? They don't hallucinate? Because we all know poor processed foods are addicting which leads to unhealthy eating habits. You would die for your kids so why are you killing them slowly now. Okay enough ranting. Just wish I had been taught this stuff sooner or been more aware of it before I began having children. Have a great weekend everyone!

Yeah, I wish I knew more earlier on in life too. I have an 18 year old with Austism and Developmental Disabilities and now trying to change some of those habits is really difficult with her. May God give you the grace and strength to complete your walking program and keep you healthy and happy during your pregnancy. :-)

Have fun with the walking program and good luck with your children's wrestling!

I can't agree more about the processed food. Most kid food has additives and food colorings that have been proven to cause behavior problems. In many instances of ADHD diagnoses, kids respond better to changing their diet, but doctor's instead pump them with drugs. In Europe, many of these food dyes are banned for this reason. When will the U.S. get it together?! At least we as consumers have options to by the more natural options instead. Happy wrestling!

Sounds like you have a great plan for wrestling. I hear you about what we feed kids. One of the little guys that I work with his Mom sends Capri Sun's all the time and I am constantly telling him you can't drink that here. I give him the option of milk or water but as soon as his Mom comes I see him leave and he's drinking that Capri Sun right out the door. Which is sad because his Mom talks about how healthy they eat. I wish I knew about healthier way to eat earlier myself, but now that I know I'm not going back, except maybe a Reese's Peanut Butter cup every now and then. =)

I agree. Enjoying stuff every once in a while is okay but we should always be striving to do better. Also did you guys here Cheerios are supposed to be going GMO free? I wonder if they will toss the BHT out the door too then. I haven't checked it yet but someone said Nature's Path is a good brand to look at for cereal

The walking program sounds fun! Looks like a good one for you since you even have a treadmill! Does all the walking around after the kiddos count hee hee ;) What a great post about children's diets. You sound like a great mother to think of what they are eating! When I reflect on my growing up eating some of the things that mom fed us I can see how far we have come in health awareness!

My fiancé loves the Pumpkin Flax Granola that Nature's Path makes! I think it's $3.00 at Walmart, which isn't too expensive considering it's USDA organic and Non-GMO. But it is a tad bit high in calories, because it is a granola! :P 260 calories for 55g or 3/4 of a cup.
