Thanks to FS, I'm learning more about nutrition all the time! This is so enlightening. Today I found a macro calculator, which gave me back the same basic numbers my doctor had suggested, so that's good. It is part of the IIFYM (If It Fits Your Macros) website and I realized that IIFYM is pretty much what I've been doing so far, and it's working for me. Armed with the knowledge that I need to get my calories up a little without increasing my carbs, I am on the hunt for snacks that are protein/fat rich without adding extra carbs.

And I found out today how to calculate my A1C levels and I gotta say, I am damn proud of my hard work so far. The day I started my diet, and started here on Fat Secret, I had an A1C level of 10.4. That is HORRIBLE! And it finally was enough to scare me. Since that day, I have been monitoring my BG level every day with my glucose meter and logging results. My current A1C is at 5.8 (119mg/DL).

I have extra challenges with dieting because I cannot eat or process most raw vegetables, leafy greens, and related foods. I can't just bulk up on salad like my hubs can and call it good. If I want something in my stomach, I have to work to find something fitting. My current kick is nuts. No, not crazy...nuts! ...mostly pistachios :-).

Anyway, feeling good and feeling "enlightened" today.

P.S. Funny thing, now that I have a desk drawer full of legal snacks, I'm not hungry. I've been struggling with mid-afternoon hungries for weeks, and now that I'm armed to defend against the hungries, they are staying away. I guess it didn't hurt that I had 6 chicken wings for lunch instead of my normal one little wrap. (Taco Bell Shredded Chicken MiniQuesadilla -- 13 carbs, 180 kcals)

Tuna with mayo is my favorite. Also hard boiled eggs are good but I don't eat them often.
