I have a question. I have always had really strong long nails. I’m drinking water and taking a multi vitamin but my nails keep breaking. I’m trying to follow Keto but a lower fat version. Any ideas why my nails are so weak and break so easy?

Could b related to genetics and hereditary. I’m a barber (don’t do it anymore) but my barber teacher said that if you want to strengthen your nails, cut a potato in half and rub it on you nails, it’ll have a film over it, and when that gardens wash it off, the potassium in the potatoes will strengthen the nails. Although I never tested this myself, no need to lol. But you could give it a shot. Or maybe eat more potassium dense foods

I’m a licensed Cosmetologist but don’t due it anymore. My nails were always strong until 2 months into this diet so somehow I think it’s related but thanks for the feedback.

ah then you’ll know more about nails then me, my girlfriend is a cosmo also, her nails are pretty long naturally because of hereditary. But I would say secondary to that would probably be vitamins/minerals/nutrients may play a small roll in that, such as zinc and iron, iron actually is one of the many minerals many women lack mostly due to “that time of the month”, drains the iron intake. Not the only reason however that is one reason that can lead to, an iron deficiency, maybe eating more iron rich foods or taking an iron supplement might add some benefits.

Thanks. I am going for a new blood test soon. I can compare my levels to before I started this diet. Thanks for your feedback.

Today is March 20th and I haven't weighed in for a few days. I went off to Palm Springs to visit friends, and for various reasons did not follow my diet! :-( It's late afternoon and I won't weigh in until tomorrow morning as usual. I'm certainly not looking forward to the result. But no fear for me...I'll be right back to 100% following what I need to do in order to rid myself of this weight! Have a great day everyone!

i'm going to try the potato thing and see what happens. Thanks for that tip! I also found out that when I use the gel (over the counter) polish my nails become weak.

Yeah from what I’ve seen the gel basically “suffocates” the nail, so they become brittle because it can’t “breath”, which I’m assuming dries the nail out to some degree creating the brittleness, probably due to the fact that our nails are made out of keratin like our hair.

The scales can be very deceiving! Take measurements once a week and you will be excited about what you see if you just stick with it! 😉
