Tarla's Journal, 04 April 2012

I have a confession to make, I haven’t been weighing in.

I have been stepping on the scale but I don’t like what I see so I have been keeping it to myself. I was hoping to get down to 295 quickly so that I could just start recording my weight once I got there (so I didn’t have to go and change my weight history), but I’m not losing weight every fast at all and really need to come clean for my own good.

I finally bought a new scale but don’t like the fact that it reads higher then my old one. I’m sad to say that I don’t think I ever got out of the 300 club, even though I really want to. So to fix this problem (and stop lying to myself and all of you who are an amazing support system) I went back and changed my weight history to reflect my REAL weight. No more hiding, no more lying.

I am proud of myself that I have been so good at tracking my calorie in-take and exercising everyday! I’m very proud of myself for also keeping myself going even though I haven’t seen much of a change on the scale. Every other time in the past, I would have given up by now and simply went back to eating whatever I wanted and sitting around (all the time) with my husband. I am so glad that I have not lost my motivation and determination to keep up all my good work. I mean the scale will have to catch up sometime (or at least that’s what I keep telling myself).

I’m not too sure why I’m not losing weight? Every other time I have done a diet (Weightwatchers, Atkins, etc.) I would always lose a lot of weight (since I always have so much to lose). But this time it feels like I have to pull teeth just to lose a pound?!? I’m not too sure what I’m doing wrong, I am keeping my calorie in-take at bay (making sure I enter everything that enters my mouth), drinking tons of water and I am exercising an hour or more a day. I have never been so active in my whole adult life! I feel amazing, so much more energy and spice for life, but every morning when I get up and step on that scale, I feel crushed and frustrated, like all my hard work is for nothing! I know this isn’t true and I’m much healthier now than I was 30- 40 pounds ago but I just don’t know what my body needs to let go of all this extra weight!

I can think of a few things that might be holding me back from losing, such as my TOM, I have always had very irregular periods and have not had one since the beginning of February but have been getting cramps here and there so maybe it’s coming and I’m retaining water??? Another thought I had was maybe I’m not eating enough calories, which doesn’t really make sense to me since I thought the whole idea behind losing weight was, Eat less = lose weight? I know it’s that simple for my husband, all he has to do is stop having seconds at meal times and he loses weight (SO not fare, he doesn’t even have to try!!). But I have been reading that if you don’t eat enough calories than your body goes into a kind of starvation mode. Or maybe I have just hit a plateau, but at 307 pounds? That one doesn’t make any sense to me either.

I’m not too sure what the reasons are but I’m determined to figure it out! So I have been making little changes this week to see if anything helps the scale go down. I have stopped using creamer and/or sugar in my coffee, instead I am now using milk and sweetener and I have cut down from 3 or 4 to 1 a day. I have also added protein powder to my diet again, which I was using at first but lots of people were telling me that because I had so much weight to lose that I shouldn’t be on protein because I won’t lose weight on it. I talked to the manager at a supplements store and he assured me that I should be adding protein to my diet in order to lose weight; he also recommended that I add a fat burner to my daily diet to help kick start my body. So I also adding a fat burner this week it’s called Ripped Freak, I don’t know if anyone has heard of it before, but it is supposedly that best stuff on the market right now (well in Canada at least). I have also changed up my workouts by adding HIIT to my regular (exercise) bike rides and I’m really enjoying it. I started to do 1 minute intervals for at least 30 minutes a day. Man does that work up an amazing sweat!!

So I guess I’ll have to wait and see how this week goes, and make changes as needed from week to week. If anyone has any advice for me that would be awesome, I really need all the help I can get!

And again, I'm very sorry for not being truthful.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Way to keep with it. It's hard when you don't see results. Especially if you'e managed to lose weight in the past, and are just baffled by what you did right then, but aren't hitting now. I believe our bodies change, or our habits change, or we misremember what we did before. If you're frustrated let it out, but don't stop. "If restarting is hard, the quit giving up." or some quote like that. I don't know when 'starvation mode' kicks in. I've never found a single person that says on day 3 of <1000cal diet you begin to enter starvation mode. But yes, be sure to eat enough. And build muscle. Take the protein, but be sure to account for it in your daily caloric intake. They have a healthy dose of calories in them too. HIIT seems to be a great way to burn more calories and lose. Keep it up. And good luck to you.

You have not given up and that is half the battle. I tell myself the same thing, If i keep going it will happen!! Eating enough could be my biggest probelm so I understand that. PROTIEN IS YOUR FRIEND!! So is HIIT that is great way to build muscle which we need to do to burn fat. I don't know anything about the fat burners, so if it works let me know, taking extras like that scare me! I don't weigh in when I am up a few pounds unless it lingers for a few weeks, Why? Because its discouraging. So if its there fore a few weeks I know its not leaving by the end I account for it. You are making progress and you will see more results, just keep at it!!

Honey, if you have been recording what you actually eat, unless you are enrolled in the "Biggest Loser", you are on the path to nothing but frustration. I can assure you that, given your weight and your current level of physical activity, you will lose at least an average of 1 1/2 pounds per week if you eat close to your RDI. You can experience a dramatic 1st 10 pound loss or something like that initially, if you starve yourself, but your body will go into preservation mode and you'll experience all the frustration and pain that goes along with dieting - without the rewards. Start eating right, and eating enough. Continue the aerobics, and lay off carbs in the late hours. You'll do fine.

Well done on "coming clean" about the weight, and changing your weight history, to your real weight. You CAN figure this out and do it... You have all the tools here to succeed. Your carbs seem a bit high - eat more protein and see how tha goes. :-)

Kudos to you for putting it all out there and being honest with yourself. That is the most important part. I commend you for doing that. That is the kind of spunk that will take you all the way on your journey. As for how to make changes, I'd recommend you see a doctor first. You want to rule out certain things before changing up bigger things on your diet. Then I would change up workouts. Incorporate different types of workouts throughout the week so that your body can not get use to just one thing. Getting HIIT training is a perfect example. I'd also change up your diet. Little changes here and there will make huge changes in the long run. I think you have a grat start by adding protein to your diet. I would start by adding natural protein before the supplements. Try egg whites, natural peanut butter, greek yogurt, nuts etc. Just make sure to watch your serving size. Some of that stuff adds up in calories fast. Last but not least just stick with it. Don't do anything you can't stick to b/c this is a lifelong change. We are not on diets we are changing the way you eat and workout to fit our life. Hit us up with any questions or concerns whenever you like. That is what we are here for. When you are frustrated vent here and we'll pump you back up. We can all do this together. Stay strong!

Thanks guys, I really needed that! I will take all your advice and use it in the following weeks. I have been trying to cut down my carbs and add more protein and just eat more regularly (that’s the only way I can eat my RDI). So thank you all again, your advice is much appreciated!!!
