Day #5 Maintenance Break
Weigh in - 189.2 (within normal range)

I do dip down to 188 every once and a while, but believe it or not I'm not blaming it all on water this time. LOL. Throw in a little "bowel congestion" and that will keep a person static. Still, I'm not complaining. At least it's staying within range! If we hit 190, I'll really know I'm full of it! LOL.

Last Sunday, I kicked butt when it came to exercise. I had another good day, so I made the most of it and knocked my push ups up to 20, did my 45 second plank, increased my crunches to 162 and swam a half mile in addition to doing my strength training routine. Tomorrow, if have another decent day, I'll be increasing repetitions on all my strength training exercises.

Mama says I look like I've lost more weight, but the scale isn't fessing up to that and apparently my bowels aren't interested in helping the matter. I'm still working on increasing my food intake, but last night when I came home, I just wasn't hungry. In fact, I felt and looked bloated. I was tempted to take the immuno suppressant without food. But, Mom didn't think it was a good idea so I went with something small and light, which took my caloric average right back down again. As I stated before, I don't want to force feed the issue. I prefer to increase the average naturally. It sets a dangerous precedent to a person that already has a distorted perception of portion size to force themselves to eat more when they don't feel like it.

The other thing I'm noticing about this maintenance break is the increase in the attentiveness to the amount and weight of the food I'm eating. I've used my food scale more in the past 5 days than I have in the past 4 months! On my weight loss WOE, I didn't need to weigh the food as much because I was eating similar foods on a habitual basis. After I weighed it once or found the caloric value from what I measured, I didn't need to do it again unless I needed reassurance. But, in maintenance one is adding other foods into the mix, and weighing and measuring these foods becomes a must if I am to stick within maintenance calories. It's really teaching me if I don't want to gain the weight back, I have to be really diligent.

By the way - I always round up my calories on FS. Especially when we consider most of these caloric numbers provided through the food search are just averages and can in truth be more or less than what is actually represented. So, say today's average is 1619, I round that up in my head to 1719 (just to be safe). I do that with all of the averages. So, when my monthly caloric average hits 1650/and or 1700, I'll consider myself at 1750/1800 and at the maintenance level I set during this time.

The spasticity in my legs has really lessened in the past week and walking has been a lot less challenging. In part, because the temps have come down a bit. They're set to come right back up this week, but the sun is setting lower in the sky now, so even a 90 degree day doesn't feel as hot as a 90 degree day in July. I'm taking advantage and hoping this is a sign fall will be a good month to enjoy some increased flexibility.

In the meantime, I feel like I'm finally settling into a new norm. It doesn't feel as weird anymore to have the walker with me. I'm learning how to keep things simple and even let things go that just don't need my full attention or energy. I'm heartened and glad to those willing to offer a helping hand, but also enjoy being on the outside looking in. I'm a girl born under the eagle sign. We're not extroverts by nature, we like to watch and observe and take note...of everything. It's part of what helped me to be a good anthropologist and a decent humanitarian and perhaps something that will help me joyfully live this life in a way I never imagined living it...

Namaste!
Have a beautiful day, everyone!
