I can finally tell that I am definitely in ketosis and that my blood sugar is in better control... I don't have that sickly sweet smell about my body and urine anymore. After 20 yrs of that sickly sweet smell, this is fantastic!

Tomorrow, I will begin a full fast. I've been doing about a 24 hr fast the last few days naturally before eating again anyway. I am hoping that I can completely break through my diabetes issue this time. I am aiming for 3-7 days on this fast. Will see how I feel after the third day if I decide to continue and take it day by day.

But today, I will indulge in eggs, glorious eggs! and the last half of my avocado and for the hell of it, I may even have some sausage too. Do a bit of a fat load before the fast.

@Julibug Hinton - I gave up all sugar, starches, and processed foods, I keep my carbs under 20 grams a day, I eat only WHOLE FOODS like non-starchy vegetables, good quality protein and healthy fats. I am following a Low Carb Healthy Fats, Ketogenic diet... I think Atkins allows for too much protein and tricks you into buying their packaged snacks and foods that are really filled with crap. If you want some advice, check out Dietdoctor.com.. the owner of the site is a Swedish doctor and there is some great free advice on his site... also look into Low Carb Down Under on Youtube... lots of the science given behind this way of eating there.. And check out Dr. Jason Fung... he is an amazing doctor in Canada that helps people who are insulin resistant (if you have fat around your tummy, you are insulin resistant!).. Good luck and if you need any advice, let me know :)

I agree with the issue of Atkins products...keeps the sugar cravings coming. Great hint about how to get enough healthy fat in on a ketogenic diet...coconut milk! mostly all healthy fat and I'm making turmeric tea with it and it really curbs my appetite!

@Fatsecretfan - do use the carton or canned coconut milk? that tumeric tea sounds good.. do you use powdered tumeric or the root?

I use canned coconut milk ( try to find organic). for the turmeric tea I blend 1 tsp of cinnamon, 1 tsp powdered turmeric, a pinch of ginger. Some recipes add 1 tsp of honey but I've been able to leave that out. Blend all the spices with the 1 can of coconut milk. You can drink it warm or cold and it really ups the fat % for the day so I can take less calories in as carbs or protein. Because I agree--too much protein turns to carbs in the body and takes us out of ketosis.
