Sunday I went to the bar for the first time in a week. What a miserable experience! I guess if I can't zone out while drinking, it really defeats the purpose for me. I logged every drink and only went over my calories by 154 for the day. I was pleased with that, but not the state of mind I was in. I'm a girl who binge drinks, 2 to 4 nights a week, beer, shots, cocktails, whatever's in front of me. It's not healthy. And I think during this first phase of my weight loss marathon I'm going to have to forgo regular nights at the bar.

That is not to say that I'm quitting drinking, but I want to keep my wits about me and I want to enjoy my life. Drinking and counting calories do not mix. There is too much math, too much planning, and it ruins my buzz! So in the interest of having more fun, I will abstain for a while, and splurge occasionally. I am giving myself permission to go out and get silly once in a while and NOT count calories. But not tonight.

First weigh in at work is tomorrow! I've been tracking myself and I'm pleased with the results so far. For some reason tho, I think that the scale at work won't show anything, or there will be some horrible failure on my part.... That is not healthy brain activity! I have been doing my part, and that's all my team can ask of me.

I keep saying that this is like the biggest team building activity our corporate office could've ever thought up: we're all helping each other, we all have the same goals, and everyone is just as clueless as I am. I have never felt so un-crazy about food in my life! Dieting can be such a lonely experience and we've got about 30 people, just at our store, doing it together. Sure, there's a competition aspect of it, but it's so refreshing to be able to help people and talk about food and calories and strategies openly. There is so much shame attached to diets, like if you're on one you're some huge failure at controlling your life. Doing this together is the best part for me.
