ardemus's Journal, 29 April 2009

Working through life long mental/energy/mood issues, and I recently discovered connections between certain wheat and dairy proteins and mental states, as well as digestive issues that have bothered me for several years. Pulling out the gluten seemed to help, but within a week I had more of the same issues. With more investigation and experimentation, the modern high carb diet seems like a likely root cause.

I am going on an Atkin's diet for many reasons, mostly to see if I can gain energy, mood, and mental clarity by backing off the carbs and returning to a more natural level of fats.

Incidentally, I have been eating progressively 'better' over the past three years (closer to the low fat low calorie diet recommended since the 80s) and exercising more consistently but I have gained 20 pounds and have been disabled due to mood issues. This is consistent with the data I'm seeing about the possible harm in high carbohydrate diets.
