Went and had a bone density test yesterday, have lost another 2 inches in heighth...have been 5'8 1/2" all my life, now I'm down to 5'5" which is so hard to believe. I had noticed that my old pants were long, but didn't really think about it, well now I know. They also weighed me which I was glad someone else verified it... have lost 5 lbs and I'm sure it's water, you always lose quickly at first.

Wow, that's crazy. Does osteoporosis run in your family? Are you very small-boned? I'm guessing they want to move on this to prevent any further bone loss. I got worried over a one-inch height loss, but then again I also have had spinal surgery, so I blamed it on that. Good luck on that journey.

I know, but it' "curvature of the spine" or osteo scoliois. No I'm not small boned, always considered tall and big boned. My mother has the same thing, I think she's down to 5' now, started at 5'7". I'm also 69 yrs young, so I can expect some shrinking, but not this much. I've also been on prednisone for the past 5 years so that will cause your bones to deteriorate also.

Bummer. Despite being a nurse and knowing that some people experience scoliosis and lordosis at various points in their lives for a variety of reasons, I don't know the treatment later in life. I don't think calcium is the issue in those cases, but I could be wrong. The fact that your mom suffers from it speaks to its genetic component. Sorry! The prednisone was necessary for your other health issue, so there's not much you could have done there. It's well known that steroids pose various risks to our health, but it can be a miracle treatment for many conditions. Just a balancing act.

Yeah I know prednisone is the miracle drug, but it's a love, hate relationship. Thank the Lord I'm not off of it regularly, just bursts when in a flare. No calcium is not the issue, in fact I have too much in my blood...so don't take any supplements which is rare at my age. Anyways thanks for the replies...will just plug along on this diet. I have to lose 45 more pounds. Not fast it didn't get on this body fast and I'm not going to lose it fast. lol
