FitOKay's Journal, 27 May 2014

So no progress over the last 5 days... I'm still just happy to be in the 140s. That also means I made it through the wedding weekend without gaining weight =p That was rough since we spent 4 hours (4 HOURS!) on a party bus going places to do pictures between the wedding and the reception with all sorts of calorie loaded drinks, alcoholic drinks, snacks, desserts and food. The wedding prep started at noon and the wedding was over a little befor 2pm so I was starving from no lunch. They even had white chocolate macadamia nut cookies (my favorite of all time). I split a cookie with my husband, ate a small sandwich, drank one beer and stuck to water after that. Reception food is always blah so that wasn't nearly as hard to keep reasonable and I just skipped the cake entirely.

I'm really going to try and buckle down and get back to a 500 calorie deficit daily. The last couple months I've been kinda just going through the motions but not really caring if I was loosing much. I could have been another ~10lbs down by now instead of ~5lbs in the last 2 months. So I really want to get back to being on top of my net calories.

I'm still having issues with my calorie limiting, but things on the lung front have taken a dramatic improvement (in my way of thinking, no increase in lung function, but a decrease in negative reactions and how quickly they set in). I'm thinking the increased dose on my maintenance steroid kicked in coupled with possibly the hormone pill helping regulate too. We know it helps regulate reproductive hormones and on some women it affects other hormones too (like causing increased appetite is a hormone effect). So it might actually be affecting the hormones responsible for lung reactions. Totally theoretical musing on my part, but not completely out of line with possibility either.

I have noticed that my lungs aren't seeming to 'freak out' as much as normal and I've been biking consistently, even on days I know I really shouldn't be, lung wise. Normally I that would have come back to haunt me by now and put my lungs out for a bit. Since the only thing that has really changed is the introduction of the hormone pill, that's really all I have to go on as what is causing the difference. It's not getting rid of the reactions or raising my peak flows, but I do think it might be helping to regulate the allergic/asthmatic reactions a little bit. Just slowing them down so that the asthma meds have a little longer to get a foot hold in and control the flare befor things get bad.

Whatever the real reason, it's been a pretty awesome change =) If the hormone pills are causing the appetite increase; while, at the same time helping regulate the lung related hormones- I will totally take that trade. It means that even though I'm eating more I also have the choice to burn more calories. A choice I don't normally have- especially in spring time. It's a quality of life increase I didn't expect to actually see happen at this point (we thought we'd gotten the lung function and asthma control about as good as we could without any more medical advances). So the last month or so has been pretty awesome.

Wow you have done so well so far! I also have two children, a 3 yo boy and 1 yo daughter. It is interesting reading your profile as we are obviously on very different diets. I have loads more fat but less carbohydrates. I do Crossfit everyday and looking to include a boxing class once a week.

Taylor-Jane, Boxing is awesome! I use to do a kick boxing class for years after my oldest was born and LOVED it! I bet you will too. Everyone's body is different and takes different things to work, the important thing is just supporting each other while we figure it out. Thanks for dropping by!
