Lillian93940's Journal, 23 July 2010

I've just come back to this site after a very long stint, and I was looking at some of my friends, and realize that some people have been here, and have been recording weight, etc., and see that in many cases people either weigh more than they did when they started, or they've only lost a few pounds. I myself have lost 40 pounds out of the 70 needed, and haven't been trying to lose for about a year and a half now. I haven't gained, but I certainly haven't lost any more.

My observation is this: there's something very wrong with how we view weight loss. The "proof" is in the fact that most of us, even though we've been saying we're dieting, we aren't really losing any significant weight.

What's up with that? Anyone have any idea why we "spin our wheels"? Do we approach weight loss with the wrong attitude? Are we unrealistic in our expectations? Or is weight loss just too darn hard? Do we not believe we can actually do it? What gives?

I believe that weight loss should be a life style change and not a quick fix.

well, yeah, obviously, but why do people find that such a difficult thing to do? Most of us understand fully that's what it takes, and fully intend to do that very thing when we first start. But after that, what goes wrong in our thinking that we never quite get the job done? THAT is my question.

Most of find when we are close to getting the job done that the weight is a symptom and really the problem is still raising it's wicked head (emotional crap). We have periods of great success and then a dark cloud comes over and we lack the skills to weather the storm. You sound as though with your years absence you managed the storms. Good luck with your last 30.

Yeah, I believe you're right, Ckell. We eat for emotional reasons, and until we fix the inside the outside isn't going to be healthy either. We truely are beings of body, mind, spirit. What affects one affects all.
