Deb_N's Journal, 01 April 2015

Hi, everyone! Hope you are well. For those who are trying to figure out how long it will take to lose their weight, I needed to lose 97 pounds and ended up losing 103, but my doctor said don't go that low. So I stay between 130 and 136 lbs, to be in my best zone. It took me 1 year and 10 months (22 months) to lose the 97 pounds, which is about 5 lbs a month.

Yesterday I was looking over my old journals and saw that three weeks ago HCB told me about coconut oil and how it gives you energy and mental clarity. I can't believe that I forgot that. I asked everyone to discuss coconut oil on my journal yesterday. All I can say is my sleep deprivation must be hurting my memory. I'm going to have to work harder on getting to bed earlier. I have always been a night owl, and since I am retired I don't need to be up in the early morning. I sleep as late as I want, unless I have an early appointment. I need to go to bed early and not be staying up past midnight. That is my new health goal. Still working on the stress. Wishing you all good luck!
132.0 lb Lost so far: 70.0 lb.    Still to go: 0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.
losing 0.2 lb a week

Listen to your doctor. You are doing just fine. All the counting and balancing was worth it.

Sleep is real important. As important as eating, and breathing, and exercising.

Deb, get some sleep!! Sleep is a biggie!!! Now then there is me on a time line it took me 2 years to lose 60 pounds. I did slow, slow and wasn't worried about it being a quick journey. I had a number of bouts of pneumonia and bronchitis and a couple injuries that slowed my progress also. Both curtailed exercise and the meds for the lung issues are great for gaining, not losing. Everyone's journey is different.

Deb try to have a relaxing Deb time at least 1 hr before going to sleep maybe reading daily newspaper or watching an hour show on tv you enjoy to try to create a stress free zone before you go to sleep

I was determined to reach my goal weight, even if it took forever, and it did seem like it took forever. At .2 lbs at a time. :)

I want to go to bed at 10:30 pm, but I always find something else to do or something to read and then it's after midnight. One of my buddies last year saw me at FatSecret and said why are you awake at this time? I felt embarrassed, like my parents caught me staying up when I should be asleep. lol

Decided to set a musical ring tone alarm on my cell phone and when the alarm goes off then the computer must go off. This might work for me.

Hope it works for you...I'm up late tonight 9:20 as the power was off sometime while I was at work, didn't realize my clocks were off. I am usually off to bed by 8:00 light out by 8:30.

Unfortunately, I did not go to bed early last night. I was all talk and no action! :'( Maybe tonight I will sleep early. :)

Deb if you don't have to get up early you can get in your sleep. I have to leave for work a bit after 6;00 so going to bed early is mandatory for me. I do not do well anymore on little sleep. My body is used to it so even on days off I am sleepy early and wake up early. Everyone's schedules are different.

There is something to be said about sleep obtained before midnight. Not the same kind of sleep as after. When you get to bed late, even if you wake up late, you don't feel as energized. For some people, ie Me! :)

Thanks for this post. I have 100 pounds to lose and I was thinking it would take me a year. I really had no idea how long it would take. I know one thing, it's not coming off as fast this time as it did last time.

NM, no idea about that. I know my body says sleep around 8:00-8:30 and if I stay up later it doesn't like it much. I sometimes do but .....About 10:00 is my limit to feel good the next day if I can sleep in.. workdays even 9:00 and I feel the difference. I have a daughter who thinks 3am is bedtime, she is totally exhausted as she has to work day hours. Due to the exhaustion she is having other issues.

Jill, don't get hung up on time, what IS important is that you change your WOE for the long term. It's a life change not a diet that works in the long run. That takes longer than some crash diet that you will turn around and gain it back and possibly cause you health problems. Just sayin..

Good advice, Wholefoodnut! WOE is way of eating.

WF - I know what you mean. I too have a son who is a vampire. Week Ends he'll stay up very late, sleep in very late and expects to be able to go back to bed at 10h30 on weekdays for his day job. Then complains about not being able to sleep. I keep telling him, it doesn't work that way. What he does to himself in these instances is akin to giving himself jetlag.

NowIunderstand, my DD does the same. No sleep catches up after awhile. I've been there when I was working rotating shifts, that was awful. She is a mess right now, doc has her on all kinds of meds for depression etc. her blood pressure is high (she's 38). She is super sensitive and gets mad at everyone very easily and having panic attacks. I think it's sleep deprivation, doc has no idea how little sleep she is getting. Bed after midnight up @ 5 am under protest, 3 or 4 am bedtimes on weekends and sleeps til noon if she can, often it's off to keep other commitments.

@WF - it's all about taking care of basics... Too bad she won't listen.
